Rec!

kate: Cougar and Jensen hugz! So much love. (Losers: Cougar/Jensen hugs)
There are 11 Losers stories OMG!

And they are all solid, I should probably rec them all (and I do in a general sense, I'm just limited in my energy and good feels this Christmas), but this one! OMG! Undercover-as-gay, competent-with-men!Cougar (this is a theme this year, woo!), and 17k words. Wonderful Jensen POV. I love this story to bits and pieces.

Relationships: Carlos "Cougar" Alvarez/Jake Jensen
Summary: "I'm a good boyfriend," Cougar said.

Cougar is a good boyfriend. A really good boyfriend!
kate: Kate Winslet is wryly amused (Losers: Jensen)
Also, betaing and after that I'm going to work on the pinch hit I recorded while I was in the car. I also sort of brought my flist along for the ride and talked to Audacity for like, three hours. I'm going to listen and see if any of it is amusing enough to post for you guys. Totally kept me awake, so thanks, everyone!
kate: blue stars/other spacey things as seen from hubble telescope (space: blue stars)
So, I'm driving home to Wisconsin for Christmas. I knew I was going to do it at some point, today, tomorrow, whatever. My little sister has made me feel sufficiently guilty that I am packing the car and I am going to drive through the night to get there by suppertime tomorrow (when I will probably finish my Yuletide pinch hit in a daze - that seems to work out well for me).

[personal profile] soleta is flying in on Christmas and we are driving back sometime on the 26th/27th depending if we can get anyone to stop in to check on the kittens (her mom is the most likely candidate at the moment). More guilt trip from the sis on leaving early, which, arg. Whatever.

So, I'll be getting on the road around midnight, armed with Susan Cooper, Jim Butcher, and Terry Pratchett, and maybe one CD of music. Oh, and a six pack of Diet Dr. Pepper. Wish me luck. <3

That Yuletide meme (which I wasn't going to do because a couple of my stories (including one of my favorites) are under pseuds. But then I decided I liked my other Yuletide stuff too, so I'll put those up and just live with it. Also, I'm procrastinating on both my [community profile] solstice_calendar treat and my Yuletide pinch hit.

Cut for details on 5 stories )

So, Yuletide nominations are live! It is a very short window this year - if you want to nom, you have only until 9:30 EST on Monday, 11/14/11 to do it (9:30 EST is what time for everyone else?). Also, here is a yuletide nomination tutorial by [livejournal.com profile] arduinna, though the form looks easy to fill out, especially if you are familiar with the way autocomplete tags work at the archive.

No one wants to waste one of their noms, so if you have nommed, please consider posting at the Locked-in Nominations List post on LJ. They are collating that information on a yuletide nomination spreadsheet, so if you haven't nommed and are wondering if your fandoms/characters are listed, do a Ctrl+F over there (there are two tabs - do check both).

Fandoms I care about that have been nommed:

The Losers (2010): Approved, but only Cougar and Jensen have been approved. Clay, Aisha, Pooch, and Roque have been nommed but not reviewed yet, and apparently no Jolene, Max, Wade, Jensen's sister or niece yet.

Haven: Approved. Characters approved so far are Audrey, Duke, Nathan, Evi Crocker, Chief, Eleanor, Dwight, and Audrey II. I'd love to see Dave and Vince, but this is a pretty complete list.

Revenge: Approved. Characters approved so far are Emily/Amanda, Tyler Barrol, Frank Stevens, David Clarke, Nolan Ross, Victoria Grayson, Conrad Grayson, Jack Porter, and Ashley Davenport. Daniel Grayson's been nommed but not approved that I can see.

I can't participate in Yuletide, but I feel like I should signal boost because nominations and signups are quite short this year, and I don't want anyone to miss them if they want to participate. Have fun!

Bullets!

  • I really think everyone should read this. Possibly triggery for rape issues. I've sent this to three different people in the last week. Seriously, ladies, trust yourselves. You do not have to do what a man wants to do because a man wants to do it.
  • I just got an email from Amnesty International. I thought it said Amnesia International. Now I want fic.
  • Work sucks. Nuff said.
  • There is a long post coming about Astroboy, rejection, and adoption. I just don't have it in me at the moment, though.
  • I don't think I'm going to do Yuletide. I'll pinch hit, maybe, if I can find something, but I've got a ton on my plate right now.
Tell me something good.
kate: Kate Winslet is wryly amused (yuletide)
I'm going to make Top Chef Masters a fandom for Yuletide. No really.

Besides the really awesome Wylie Dufresne/Graham Elliot idea I had a while ago, and the awesome beginnings of truly epic things to come from [livejournal.com profile] beadslut (Wylie Dufresne/Eliot Spencer!!!), I just realized Hubert's last name is Keller. So I want fic about Jennifer being Hubert's niece or whatever and Rodney getting to meet him and eat his food. The OTPer in me wants this to somehow end up John/Rodney, but I think I could deal with McKeller if it had Hubert cooking for Rodney in it.

Now if I can just find a way to work in Anita Lo. I love her.

Two notes: I am remiss in not having said so, but my delicious new default icon is thanks to the lovely and wonderful [personal profile] diner (along with two other beautiful ones of Kate Winslet) and the awesome and adorable [personal profile] silverraven wrote a lovely John/Rodney camping ficlet, Roughing It for my birthday. It is wonderful and sweet and you should go tell her so. Please.

Oh, and two more notes (I swear these'll be the last): There's a Tell Me What To Write meme here. I'm not going to put my name up there (as I just don't do these, ever, and you are always welcome anywhere and anytime to ask me to write something for you - I will try to do it, but my track record is about 25%, so keep that in mind), but you all should put your names up there because I want to tell you things you should write because you'd be brilliant at it.

And, there is actually a post where you could ask me to write something for you. Or you could ask me anything else about writing, SGA, my personal habits, or my cats. Just about anything, really. It's for [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match, and there are a lot of really awesome people on Team War you could ask questions of as well, should you like to take a tour around the comments.

Wow - thank god for the preview function. Four html errors. Must be because I'm actually watching Fast and Furious. Mmmmmmmmmm gay boys.
kate: Hayden is so pretty and witty and gaaaaaay! (RP: Hayden "i feel pretty")
Who is going to write me Wylie/Graham fic? I WANTS IT.

My [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa story: Four Funerals and a Wedding, John/Rodney and pre-Lorne/Zelenka, Lorne POV

Thanks MILLION to [livejournal.com profile] silverraven11 who gave a couple of really constructive suggestions that made this a thousand times better, and thanks another million to [livejournal.com profile] shaenie who really tightened the story up and gave me terrific suggestions. I can't thank you both enough.

My [livejournal.com profile] yuletide stories: Understudy, Psych, Shawn/Gus, thank you a million to Skogkatt for a thorough last minute beta.

Also, Subversion, Alexander, Alex/Heph, written in an hour and a half to the minute before the database closed.
kate: Kate Winslet is wryly amused (Default)
My [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa story: War Crimes, WWII Lorne/Zelenka AU, R. Exactly what I asked for, an SGA AU with my new second-favorite pairing, thank you santa! Seriously, y'all can blame it on [livejournal.com profile] gblvr, she's my Lorne/Zelenka enabler.

My [livejournal.com profile] yuletide story: A Wat's Tale, Wat/Kate, G, a look at what happened to the gang (and especially Wat) after the end of A Knight's Tale. Again, exactly what I asked for, thank you my dear santa!

An incomplete listing of [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa fics I enjoyed (since I've read approximately a third of them all):

Stargazing, Sheppard/McKay, PG-13, John is a bug and Rodney is an android, and I adore the sci-fi feel of this.

The Bumblebee Myth, Sheppard/McKay, PG-13, THEY ARE ALL BUGS. CRACKTASTIC.

All Dressed Up And... Sheppard/McKay, R, a slow and sensual look at John cross-dressing. Not my normal fare but I really enjoyed the attention to detail.

Five Stories Jeannie Miller Tells (to Madison Miller and Evelyn Sheppard-McKay, and One Story That Isn't Hers To Tell), Sheppard/McKay, PG, a really nice five things fic, summarized pretty much by its title.

The Hottest Blood of All, Sheppard/McKay, Sheppard/McKay/Lorne, NC-17. I love Christmastime. It makes me read things I would never think of before. I really enjoyed this, it was a fun romp.

An incomplete listing of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fics I enjoyed (since I've read approximately a hundredth of them all):

[livejournal.com profile] soleta's terrific Diana Wynne Jones - Howl series gift: Song, Howl/Sophie, PG, a really well written look at the pair of them.

[livejournal.com profile] gayalithiel's fantastic Rahm Emanuel/Barack Obama gift: Ten Sephirot, Nine and a Half Fingers, Eight Nights, 44 Presidents, Emanuel/Obama, NC-17, witty and hot and if I believed in hell, I'd have a first class ticket.

[livejournal.com profile] sock_me_amadeus's awesome True Blood gift: Union, justice et confiance, Bill/Sookie, G, an interesting history lesson. I don't even know this fandom, but I really enjoyed this.

RPF - So You Think You Can Dance: Suddenly I See, Travis/Ivan, R. I can't even tell you how much I love this, and I know there's only one or two of you out there who might ever be interested.

Constantine (Crossover with Batman): Libera Me, Constantine and Batman in Gotham, PG-13, a nicely dark crossover. Some really beautiful lines.

A Dog's Breakfast (not really, but sort of fused with SGA): Patrick and the Flim-Flam Man. Patrick and John Flanigan, PG-13. Like a mix of SGA RPF and McShep. I know, I know, should be A Dog's Breakfast, but we all know what happened here, and I rather enjoyed it, actually.

That xkcd fic that everybody's reccing: The Amazing Adventures of Hat Guy and the Girl Who Stole His Hat. Hat Guy/Girl Who Stole His Hat, PG-13, pitch-perfect to the strip.

ETA: An SGA Christmas fic that is so utterly charming (even though it's not for [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa): A Boyfriend for Christmas by [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore. ADORKABLE. I love these boys.
kate: Kate Winslet is wryly amused (atlantis at sunrise)
I spent Christmas day racing to the bathroom from my bed. I missed seeing one of my sisters and her kids, and I ached everywhere. I also missed out on sledding and a Christmas night movie with one of my other sisters.

I haven't had the flu in years. This SUCKED. Also - everything smelled sulphur-y. Anybody know what that's about? Burping up rotten egg smell is not my ideal way to spend a Christmas.

In a non-scrooge moment, I'll do the drabble game: I wrote two [livejournal.com profile] yuletide stories and one [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa story, and I'll give you a drabble of your choice for any of them you can guess. (I have a hard time believing anyone will know or care, but. You know, whatever.)

Since [livejournal.com profile] yuletide is so big this year (over 2400 stories), I'll give you one huge hint. The two stories are both in fandoms I've written before (the list is on the first post here). (Comments screened.)

And, just because this holiday hasn't been entirely horrible, let me tell you a little bit about Christmas eve dinner. My brother-in-law dug a trench through the three feet of snow to the back yard so he could grill our dinner. Yes. Three feet of snow, people.

[livejournal.com profile] soleta is on a midnight train to Boston, and I'm tired, but... I've been discombobulated these last couple of days, seriously, and it all came off of a kinky fic I read which is weird because I don't generally read kinky fic and now I've got these things buzzing in my head that I want to talk about but have no idea how to do so. I'm not sure what I even have to say, honestly, but I feel like I need to say something. I have... You know, I've never really understood 'triggering' before, but I think that might have been what this was. (HELLO I AM SUPER BORING VANILLA WHITEBREAD, SUE ME. I grew up Catholic, middle-class, small-town boring.)

Plus I have things I need to be doing, so many things, and they're making me crazy. I finally got work back under control, but I'm thinking about bowing out of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide because I'm freaking out a little here.

Okay, so I guess I did figure out a few things to say, anyway.

Dear Yuletide Author: )

I hope that this has been helpful and that you are as psyched as I am about writing for Yuletide and getting a fic made just for you!

P.S. My original requests, for the curious )

[livejournal.com profile] gayalithiel, [livejournal.com profile] indiwise, [livejournal.com profile] tootsiemuppet, and [livejournal.com profile] anima_mecanique, you know I think of you every time I look at the Yuletide Nominated Fandoms list.

I don't know if you do Yuletide or not, but I really think you all should (as should any of you with small fandom desires!) because look at some of the fandoms on that list!

Master and Commander (movie)
Mary Renault - Alexander series (among many other of her books and series!)
P G Wodehouse - Jeeves and Wooster series
Patrick OBrian - Master and Commander series
RPF - 20th-21st c. Politics
RPF - Classical history and literature
RPF - Food Network (tv)
RPF - Gridiron Football aka American Football aka Canadian Football (includes NFL)
RPF - Pundits aka News Correspondents
Strangers With Candy

And that's just a few - there are over 2000 available small fandoms! Signups are in a few days. Come on, you know you want to!

Well, f*ck.

I suck.

No, I really really really suck. I rewatched the source material for my yuletide fic (and I had watched it once already, so I felt I had a pretty good grasp on it already) but missed a KEY thing, and now the fic is just f*cking WRONG. I mean, like this thing I missed COMPLETELY NEGATES THE ENTIRE FRICKING STORY.

How did I miss this?

I found out about it in someone's comment on another person's fic - a treat for the same prompt that I wrote for.

GODDAMMIT.
kate: Ah, Jeeves and Wooster and the piano, just like the good old days. (Jeeves and Wooster piano)
My yuletide fic is A Question of Authority, AU Jeeves and Wooster. It's Dread Pirate Jeeves! So awesome! It's slashy, though, more than subtextual, so if that bothers you, give it a pass. If you can tolerate it, though, go read! It is awesome like an awesome thing! Spot on Bertie voice.

Thank you, anonymous Yuletide author!
