I always think of DW communities here, but I realized that one of the last times I did this, I had started a reference list for MDZS and BJYX things.

It's out of date now, probably could use some updating, but I'm not going to bother at the moment. I am actually going to rec three DW communities.

For multi-fandom recs:

fancake, which has found me some truly terrific pieces in a number of fandoms, including MDZS

For multi-fandom prompts:

fan_flashworks is a delight and has a nicely organized structure

For multi-fandom fests, exchanges, and the like:

fandomcalendar is a fandom staple

Ah, there's already so many good things out there, though! There's

holiday_wishes (my wishlist here),

fandomtrees (my tree here), and I'm sure a bunch more that I don't even know about! If you are looking for stuff to make specifically for me (oh, you absolute sweetheart, you), here are my dear creator letters tag and make this for me! tag.

I love writing and I write every day, and I love writing support communities. If you do any of these things, there is a comm for you!

getyourwordsout is a serious comm with lots of support, frequent posting, and monthly checkins (and an amazing tracker spreadsheet!).

inkingitout has weekly checkins but is generally more chill. They don't kick you out if you don't make check-ins, and the bar for entry used to be lower, but I think GYWO has now created a much broader range of goals (including habit pledges instead of word pledges).

thedailywriter is a daily checkin community (though I think you can do it weekly though?) if you're looking for more concentrated accountability. There are plenty of those, so I'm not in need of more.

There are lots and lots of prompt and fandom specific communities, here or elsewhere, and I'd say I'd like a smallish MDZS writer's discord with a lot of activity but I'm already in several and don't participate in them (no time, and it's a bit scary), so I'm not going to ask for more that I won't participate in.

And then there's

snowflake_challenge, which is honestly the reason I come back to dreamwidth every January and post stuff! And its sister community,

sunshine_challenge, which I help mod for!

So I think I'm covered, really? The only wish I could have, which I wish for every year, is for writers (and any creator, really) to add a fanworks permission statement to their profile. It doesn't have to be blanket! You can say "hey, I am good with art and podfic, but not translation" or "no transformative works pls" or "go for it, it's all good" but something! It is so nice to be able to look at someone's profile and know if they are good for a podfic or not. And with my spur of the moment cold reading habits, if someone doesn't have a permission statement, I'm unlikely to go ask for permission, I'll just skip it and go one to someone else.

Hm, you know, I don't actually use fandom resources that much. Not fandom-specific ones, anyway. I don't write the kinds of things that get into that kind of detail, usually. But there are a lot of good resources for The Untamed/MDZS, if I can track down links to them (I do actually save resources, I just don't reference them often).

Oh, man. I always feel selfish when I do this, but you know, you guys are AMAZING and I have received some of the greatest gifts from this, so I'm going to do it despite my constant misgivings.

1. I'd love a few more Supernatural buddies. I know there aren't that many on DW, so if you're on tumblr and you can stand what is likely to my posting about Supernatural all the freaking time, follow me there? I'm

kisahawklin (as I am everywhere that's not here). Feel free to friend me here, too, if you're stopping by from the Fandom Snowflake post! I post more broadly than Supernatural here, though.

2. I would love someone to cheerlead and/or beta my fic (again, mostly Supernatural). Betas really only for finished works, and I am looking for someone with a firm hand and strong opinions (but a willingness to allow variations for style). I haven't had a consistent beta in a while and I miss it - good betas are like writing school. For a cheerleader, I'd just love someone with whom I can share WIPs (including trading WIPs - I'm good at mutual cheerleading, just ask

wintercreek) and get a daily "yay!" about. It's so helpful to keep me going.

3. Tutorials on gif-making. I have a feeling, now that I'm on tumblr, that I'm going to have to figure this one out.

Well, my first wish is for folks to stuff

fandom_stockings. I've written a few treats and I'll try for a few more over the next few days, and I would just like everyone's stockings stuffed full by the time they go live (around the evening of Sunday, January 5th). You can sign up here to help fill stockings that are in need of a little love or just check the tags for particular fandoms that you're feeling right now. If you want to look for a particular person's stocking, you can use the search function. One of my favorite things about fandom is the way we all give to each other all the time, we create things that make other people happy for no other reason than to make them happy. How great is that?

Secondly, I'd love to have people grant things on the wishlists of the Fandom Snowlake Challenge Day 4. Ditto all the reasons above. Fandom is my happy place, most of all when people share the love.

For myself, I'd really, really love advice on where to go as a 100% complete newbie vidder. I've got vid ideas bursting out my ears, and I want to get my feet wet. If you know of a newbie vidder comm or a resources post or just... anything that will help someone who has never touched vidding anything before, that would be super great.

marina is off to DC for the day, and she'll be sleeping at

synecdochic's tonight and tomorrow because of my brother, ARG. I mean, I love the boy so much, but seriously, his communication and sense of timing suck. He's taking his super duper comfortable bed back to Boston tomorrow, and sleeping on it tonight. With the new potential boyfriend material. I like the new potential boyfriend material, actually, he's sweet and funny and they seem to get on quite well. But still. I wish he could have pushed this back a weekend or two. He's also taking his computer chair back, which means we need to get something for

soleta to sit on.

I just had a massive deja vu; it was this SGA fall meme over on LJ. There's a bit of fic, and then a pic of action figures with a quote, and between that and the response to it, it was SO sharp. I remembered it exactly - so much so I checked to see if it was perhaps the old meme they were referencing, but no. And I remembered the John Hannah thing that was on the TV and the red blanket I'm sitting under (which we just pulled out for Marina last night, so it's not like the red blanket is something that's normally around for me to sit under). So clear, seriously, it was bizarre.

Also, I have a headache I can't get away from. I've tried Advil, stretching, lots of water, and it just won't budge. I don't have headaches like this; dehydration ones are taken care of with lots of water and any other ones I have (eyeball headaches, tension headaches, or slight caffeine withdrawal headaches) are all handled with an Advil or two (and sometimes stretching my neck). I've had four Advil and four glasses of water now, and my head's still pounding. :(

On the other hand, it is a glorious 50° outside. It can stay like this until next spring, please.

1. Today's

solstice_calendar is locked, so if you want to see the recipe, you will actually have to join the community (instead of just subscribing). No biggie if you don't want to, but no obligation if you do join - really, really. And you can always UN-join later.

2. I finally put Four Funerals and a Wedding up on the AO3. I hope the new formatting is helping SOMEBODY out, because it sure is a pain in my ass. Clearly my section markers are not good section markers, they screw things up every damn time.

3. Secret Santa started today at work. It's $1 gifts for four days, and then a $15 gift on Friday. These people do not understand the meaning of $1, let me tell you. It's pretty freaking annoying to those of us who actually stick to the monetary values we're supposed to. We look like massive cheapskates. (The gift I got was more like a $5 gift, so that's nice, but... but... (ugh, I'm so sorry to be a scrooge).)

4. Inlaw function yesterday was relatively painless (fun, actually) and got us home with several pounds of cheese, chorizo, wine, crackers, and other goodies, as well as a bit of cash tucked into some books. All that and a pleasant visit with the sister-in-law, which was quite nice.

Oooh, and 5. My brother is sick. I hate it when he's sick (almost as much as he does). Any good home remedies for colds besides chicken soup?
