Just woke up (which sucks because I fell asleep after 3am yesterday) and in scrolling my dwircle with all my fic feeds, there's just... nothing I want right now. People are feeling hurt by the show so there is this plethora of fluffy, happy fic, and it is the exact opposite of what I want.
And I would work on my own not-fluffy fic, but I just got a new Macbook Air (yay!) and it has office 2011, but that won't recognize .docx files, which of course all my stories are because I am super lazy and often just leave the doc open for days before saving it, and then do so in a hurry. And of course my work computer encrypts all my damn flash drives, so I have to take the flash drive to another computer, unencrypt and download all my stories, then wipe the flash drive, then re-upload, and then transfer the stuff to the mac. I fell asleep somewhere during wiping the flash drive. And now I'm awake but my wife is asleep and I am afraid to do this stuff without her looking over my shoulder because the chance that I will do something stupid and lose half a million words of fic is terrifying.
In other news,
ante_up_losers is live, and there's so much good stuff!!! These were most definitely the right fic, art, and vids! :D :D :D
I received the wonderful Negotiable Affection (give me something to hold onto) which is hooker!Cougar and john!Jensen's first kinky appointment. Includes bondage and marking (my favorite!). It's wonderful and perfect, moreso than I can say for reasons which will have to wait until after the reveal, and I love love love it!
Also excellent: Your Heart Beating Next to Mine, Jensen/Cougar/Pooch/Jolene, a soulbond fic that has a very different take on it than I've ever seen, and which I enjoy immensely. I'd love another 100,000 words of this fic to roll around in, because I love the way xie portrays all the characters and Jensen's general hesitancy. Warning: mentions of (and descriptions of resultant trauma) of abuse (mostly emotional, I think) from a previous boyfriend.
SG1/Losers crossover that has the most amazing Aisha (comics canon but set in movie timeline, I think?): Get Your Hate On, which captures Aisha and Jensen and disbelief at the Stargate program beautifully. Also, wonderful appearance by Rodney McKay.
Save the Last Dance for Me is a fucking CLAY/ROQUE VID! And it is wonderful and perfect, and the song choice and clips are amaaaaaaaaaazing, OMG you need this in your life, I am serious!
Jacinta and Carlita Kick Ass, art of genderbent Jensen and Cougar. I don't know what to say - it's just... right. And I really like Cougar's boobs.
More reviews later! Have to see if I can do something with my docs.

on 2/9/14 05:55 pm (UTC)Seriously, I use them every work day, back and forth with clients and colleagues. If yours can't, then something's screwed up in the installation.

on 2/9/14 07:01 pm (UTC)It's still a bad cross between a word processor and layout program, and they keep adding those horrid graphics libraries, but it basically works.

on 2/9/14 07:27 pm (UTC)That's when the decision to get my Air was pretty much made, too. :|

on 2/9/14 05:57 pm (UTC):P This is actually my overwhelming experience of fandom as an adult! When it's the RIGHT fic is when it's unusual! >.>

on 2/9/14 06:13 pm (UTC)(I'm kind of cursed. Even the one time I went for the m/m ship that should have had the fannish hivemind enraptured AND which I could accept variations on interp for . . . it turned out that was a het-dominated fandom with unexamined race issues, and one of my ship is black. :|)

on 2/9/14 07:24 pm (UTC)I can certainly understand why your production is so high, then! I had a friend who used to write a rarepair and basically said "I write it so that months from now, maybe I'll come across it and be delighted that someone wrote my rarepair!" Which I've always found endearing, if incomprehensible to me (I can't imagine not remembering something I've written. I've got 253 fics posted and while I don't remember every one, I can't imagine coming across one and not knowing it was mine).

on 2/9/14 07:32 pm (UTC)When Pacific Rim came along, I was ready for it and came out going "despite the obvious Stacker/Herc and the HITTING US OVER THE HEAD Mako/Raleigh, I am willing to bet significant money that the day after tomorrow, the kink-memes will be full of Newt/Hermann and Raleigh/Chuck, as those are the pairings I have the least possible interest in." AND LO, IT WAS SO.
Yeah, I'll never forget that I wrote it, but if it's been long enough it can at least feel like a reread instead of "oh look there's a typo I missed". But yeah, that's pretty much why every time I'm into a fandom where fic is desired I'm full of "now let me write what I want to see!" rather than "now let me find all the fic!"

on 2/9/14 10:11 pm (UTC)It's a rare occurrence for me, but it does happen. Right now, I've got about 530 items in my nook. 435 are fics and the remaining 90 are profic books. Even though I make a conscious effort to dl fic and pro books that really interest me, there have been times when nothing quite pings me.
So then, I have to reminding myself that I added XYZ story or novel because something about it caught my eye. Sometimes, that will get me into giving one of the stories a chance. Other times, I'll settle with a comfort fic or novel and chuck it all up to having an "off day".
I've been lucky enough in that the pairings I'm interested in--whenever I've been in medium-sized or big fandoms--happen to be the juggernaut ships or, at least, very popular ones. Most of the time, my personal canon aligns really well with the fandom's hive mind so I'm not lacking in fanworks.
Strangely enough, I'm usually at odds when it comes to small fandoms. Unless I write them OR a friend will write them for me (after I've prompted them), I almost never get to enjoy fics about my favourite pairings in tiny!fandom. I think that this part of the reason why, even though I like small fandoms, I prefer to hang out in bigger ones.
