Pitch Perfect. Seriously.

I haven't seen Bridesmaids yet, but I've been recced it so highly; I keep meaning to check it out because it's been recced by people I trust. All the reasons that people are reccing that? They're the reasons I'm reccing this. (Great friendships between women, the romance is not sappy and not front and center, speaking of front and center, a collection of truly wonderful supporting lady characters, and then, THERE'S MUSIC. AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING MUSIC.)

I bought it in my hotel room last night (I get a free movie as a perk, no worries), and not only did I watch it all the way through gleefully, I immediately recced it to [personal profile] meghanc, rewound it to the beginning and watched it again with her.

So amazing. I was up until 5am last night (writing pinch hits, too, not just the movie, though that made it awesome) and I don't mind at all. SO. GOOD.

Ahaha! It reads like Who's On First - I thought pitch perfect was a description of the movie! :D :D

My local library doesn't have Pitch Perfect for me to check out. I resent this quite a bit. I've also heard good things about Bachelorette, but the library doesn't have that either. ETA: I may be forced to see if Redbox has it, and I've never used them before.

Bridesmaids is absolutely amazing, and I was so leery of it at first. But it's absolutely hilarious. I want all the Annie/Helen. All of it.

I have both a Hulu and a Netflix streaming account, and have access to my mom's Amazon Prime account, so I try to avoid renting physical media as much as possible. And when I have to, I try my library first. On the plus side, Redbox being cheap and convenient helps.

Now if only they'd have Pitch Perfect! Ugh, studios. I am not going to buy it if you hold off on releasing it to rental services before releasing it to the stores.

Your library charges for rentals? How come? If I sound confused, it's because I've never had a library charge me to borrow a dvd, blu-ray, video game, or cd.

I don't mind buying discs, because there's no good, easy way of universally storing everything and backing it up. But if there were, I would ditch the hard copy media in a heartbeat. Until then, I make do with streaming Netflix and Hulu, which are essentially monthly unlimited use rentals. (As you already know, honestly.)

I have a background in singing, so I was already partially intrigued. :) I'll look for it at Red Box next time I'm at the store.

I just watched Pitch Perfect over the weekend and had pretty much the exact same flaily reaction. It found my id and then wrapped it in a big bear hug and now I want all of the long and ploty fic that doesn't exist.

I have not seen Pitch Perfect, but can I give a huge anti-rec to Bridesmaids? Wall-to-wall humiliation humor and not a single character who acts like a goddamn grownup; it was one of the most cringe-worthy movies I've ever seen.

This is 100% what I came in here to do. I made it about 30 minutes into Bridesmaids and gave up--I kept waiting for it to start being good, and it was just dreadful. Could not cope.

Kisa, I didn't find Pitch Perfect to hit any of the humiliation buttons that Bridesmaids did, for whatever it's worth. Pitch Perfect is much, much...I hesitate to say tamer, but it's the only thing I'm coming up with. Bridesmaids was rather like a bunch of grown-ass women acting like stupid teenagers. Pitch Perfect felt relatively demographically appropriate, and was sweet and charming, neither of which I could apply to Bridesmaids.

uh, end rant. Sorry.

Yeah, Bridesmaids is kind of the same humor as in the Hangover movies, except now the case is all female. So somewhat tragic characters, some toilet humor, but also chicks hanging out and doing stuff together. You might like it, you might not *hands*

If you end up watching Bridesmaids, I'd be really interested to hear how you feel about it. I sort of suspect that it's going to push your make it stop buttons, but...but interested, I guess is what I'm saying.

I really, really wanted to like it--women! Being buddies! Multiple fat women in the same movie! But...no.

Do you think my 12-year-old would like Pitch Perfect? We're relaxed about her in regards to cursing, some violence, or seeing reasonably positive sexual innuendo, though she and I both hate long stretches of embarrassment humor. We're making it through Buffy by talking over the really bad bits.

It would be hypocritical of me to write porn and then get all squirmy about my kid knowing about sex (it helps that she's my second too). She loves musicals, a modern one will be cool!

For whatever it's worth, I'm planning to watch Pitch Perfect with my ten year old Friday afternoon when winter break starts. The sexual stuff is much milder than the sex stuff in Buffy--it's all off-screen, sometimes alluded to but never shown. It's all pretty sex-pos.

There's some casual (presumably underage) drinking, one scene of fairly comic violence (it does include a man being kicked in the balls--but in fairness, he tells someone to kick him in the balls, trying to start a fight), and a couple short bursts of embarrassment humor...but it's done in a way that, to me, didn't feel gross. I didn't feel, much, like we were laughing at them, if that helps at all. There's also some vomit humor, but it was over the top enough that I wasn't terribly grossed out.

All that said, if you're doing OK with Buffy, I think Pitch Perfect would be just fine.

Oh hai hope you don't mind if I de-hermit to comment on this because I saw Pitch Perfect in theaters and then IMMEDIATELY bought it when it came out yesterday and made the SO watch it with me, and we both were just so full of joy because it's such a fantastic and happy movie! Yay Pitch Perfect. Also, I co-sign Bridesmaids.

lol they kind of kept shooting themselves in the foot re: the big romance plot, because every time the guy got to be adorkable they immediately followed it up with Chloe getting all up on that. I in the very least call for a threesome! Also.

I checked out the soundtrack, but unfortunately everything is overly produced and that kind of drowned out the charm. None of the mixes she was listening to on her headphones got included either. I love me some good mash-ups :(

When I saw it I was honestly surprised that the main lead didn't end up with the Bella with the nodes.

After the shower scene it just felt like it should have ended with those two making beautiful music.

I was just really hoping this would be a high-cost movie with a lesbian love story - but I realized if that was to happen I probably would have heard about it online or in the news. /o\

Yes! I remember that one! (Well, I did after I googled it because apparently my memory is failing me)

Saving Face is a great movie for me because I understand her family- they feel like MY family. I know one of my friends felt rather meh about the movie and didn't understand her motivations at times - but she still enjoyed it despite that.

LONG LIVE LESBIAN LOVE STORIES! \o/
