Wellllll hello there writers. I haven't been checking in on Write Every Day since.... a while. July? August maybe? So I forgot that I was planning to host October! Here it is, though, October Write Every Day!
A little about Write Every Day, from the WED welcome post at
zwei_hexen (
sylvanwitch and
ysilme): We challenge each other to write, every single day. Our goal is to encourage one another and provide the accountability and/or motivation that some of us find very useful in keeping the words flowing. However, there's no obligation and no pressure, and if writing didn't happen for you on any given day, there won't be any judgement, just support and sympathy!
A little bit about me: I'm in the central time zone in the US, so UTC-6? I think? I plan to post before I go to bed, so the post will be up for folks a little further in the future from me. I write fanfic, currently in the MDZS fandom. I had a goal of writing 250 days this year and have reached it already. That said, nothing substantive, and I haven't posted anything on the AO3 in over a year, so. Still working on it.
I have no idea how I'm going to do this thing, but come on in! Let's figure it out!
How did day 1 of October go for you? What are you working on?
Day 1 tally:
china_shop,
cornerofmadness,
kate,
luzula,
regshoe,
sanguinity,
shadaras,
sylvanwitch,
trobadora,
yasaman,
yhlee,

on 10/1/23 05:44 am (UTC)1st: several long meta comments, and a page of notebook scrawling that might turn into a fic. :-)

on 10/1/23 11:22 am (UTC)In July, I've been ambushed by a re-emerging of my first major fandom (Age of Sail in general, the Bolito novel series in particular). I wrote a ton of fanfic in that during my teens and early twens, at a time when there was no internet yet and I also didn't know what fanfic was and that I could write what I really wanted, including fix-it for major character death in canon. And, as for most of us, my early steps into writing weren't very skilled. ;op In July, I was planning to re-read my old fics (painstakingly saved over all this time - first written in longhand or with a typewriter, later typed into my first computer (an Atari) and then converted the data files up until today) and then throw them away with fond memories and a loving good-buye (I'm at the age where you start to sort through things and weed out stuff), but then had the sudden urge to instead do something with some of them and bring them up to date. So started what I'm calling the Nostalgia project: sorting through all those fics, merging several (I wrote so many OCs back then) into one longer and fitting-together narrative, converting everything into English, too, and create drafts and scenes of something which might or might not be written out more in detail in the future. This will stay a drawer project for my eyes only although I'm also having a few ideas for publishable snippets. I was having the loveliest time doing this since then, also writing all the fix-its, queer charas etc. I wanted into it.
I'll be mainly working at this during October, I suppose, but there are also a few exchange fics needing to be written in my previously current main fandom (Tolkienverse - considering how much AoS is occupying my mind since July I can no longer say Tolkienverse is currently my main fandom, I suppose ;op ), and I'm supposed to write an original Christmas story for a yearly anthology. I'm already late with that one and don't know if it'll happen after all, but we'll see.
Also, October is going to be a very tough month for me for RL reasons, so all of my plans might come to nought even so. I'm usually writing every day but I might not be able to check in daily for this reason.
Day 1: 900+ words of nonfic so far
Edit: adding 1,4k of fic.

on 10/1/23 08:28 pm (UTC)Day 1: Some brainstorming for my Trick or treat exchange fic, and a few alibi sentences on my Flight of the Heron werewolf fic. Would have written more, but I got to meet up with some fannish friends over Zoom instead! : D
Goals for October: Finish the Trick or treat fic, obviously. Dare I aim to finish the first draft of the werewolf fic? Possibly??

on 10/1/23 11:50 pm (UTC)I dropped out of WED check-ins some time ago as well, and even though I've been keeping up with my alibi sentences, writing has essentially not happened (the odd brief exception notwithstanding) for months. So my goal for October is to, somehow, relearn how to actually write.
Day 1: alibi sentence ...

on 10/2/23 03:00 am (UTC)I have a holiday fic to write this year, I'm gonna start with some stupid prompt scribbling, I think. Just getting something flowing has got to help, right?

on 10/1/23 11:51 pm (UTC)My goal for October is to finish the novel outline I started in September. I should be editing the novel I finished in August, but this is quite obviously a procrastination technique (I dislike editing) and also a passion project, a kind of cozy post-apocalypse m/m romance, so I'm going to go ahead with it. I'm even considering doing NaNo this year to write the thing (working title: The Priest and the Outlaw). I successfully completed NaNo for ten years in a row and then realized I'd peaked, so to speak, because I was competing with myself every year to shave days off the finish line, and it was getting more than a little unhealthy for me. We'll see if I'm up to trying it again.
Day 1, I added 277 words to the outline (which is a narrative outline, so fairly beefy, words-wise). It would have been more, but I overdid it on yardwork and am paying the price in tiredness.

on 10/2/23 03:04 am (UTC)Wow, I am so impressed. I've done NaNo every year since 2013, but I've only won once. I usually start strong and peter out mid-month. I hope you can do it in a way that's good for you!

on 10/2/23 01:06 am (UTC)Day 1: Finally wrote down the outline for a story that's been marinating in my head for a month!

on 10/2/23 06:11 am (UTC)I'm currently editing my Flight of the Heron/Kidnapped crossover longfic, and I hope to finish the main edits this month. Not sure whether I'll try and post this month or not—it might need to sit for a bit before final polishing, and there is Yuletide...
Day 1: Edited the first half of chapter 17 (of 21).

on 10/2/23 06:53 am (UTC)Way to tackle that editing! Great start to the month!

Oct 1st - 915 words. A double drabble and work on my spook_me fic, which is progressing, so I guess that's good.
