Note from 2012: I've never done one of these before. I'm not a huge reflection type person, normally, but as I get older I find I would like to have this record for... I dunno. Myself, people who might be interested, my family. Whatever.

Note from 2013: I'm not fond of a lot of this meme. I'm terrible at reflection so I'm not sure I'll actually switch out a lot of these questions, but hopefully I will, a few at a time, until I come up with a better set for the yearly review.

Note from 2014: I almost didn't do this one this year, I really hate it. If anyone has suggestions for a better one, link in the comments?

Note from 2015: Here we go again. Still hate some of the questions, not much changes from year to year in a fair number of these categories.

Note from 2021: LOLLLLL so much has changed since 2015 it's going to be interesting finally! I probably won't remember that much from the last 6 years, my memory has gone to shit. But I'll try!

1. What did you do in 2021 that you'd never done before? Voiceteam! And I did a daily cold read for 5 months. That was a lot of fun. In 2020 I worked from home most of the year, that was new. 2019 I started a new job. 2016-2018 I… uh. Have no idea, honestly.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolution and will you make more for next year? What goals do you have for 2022? Write every day. Get back into my spiritual stuff, it's been so long. Hopefully eat more veg.

3. How did you spend New Year last year? Pretty sure, like every year, we spent it on the couch.

4. How will you spend it this year? Definitely spent it on the couch.

5. How much traveling did you do in 2021? More than expected. Went to Boston and New York with my nephew and older sister in the brief, shining moment when it looked like COVID had mostly cleared up. Then it didn't, and it was back inside. 2020 None. 2019 was New Hampshire for work, and then a trip to Hawaii for a vacation. I miss Hawaii. I would like to go back when things clear up again. 2016 – 2018 no clue. Sure I was all over the place for work and probably some for pleasure.

6. What would you like to have in 2022 that you lacked in 2021? Less work and more inner peace. Also I'd really love to get my writing inspiration back.

7. What date from 2021 will remain etched upon your memory and why? None. I don't have a lot of brain space anymore and I just figure… if I really need to jog my memory, I can google it.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Definitely that huge, daily cold read. I'm really proud of that.

9. What was your biggest learning experience? Hiring another dud. That makes 2 out of 3 duds I've hired in this position, and I am just hoping I can get out of hiring people in the future.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Sure did, got COVID in early December and it was flipping miserable. Also had a cold that starting in July and lingered for months because of the cold reads and incredible amounts of meetings/talking I had to do at work.

11. What was the best thing you got, bought, pilfered, or stole? A bidet. Seriously, probably our best purchase since the house (bought the house in 2019). Bought a car in 2015 - can't believe I didn't mention that that year, lol.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? What's your proudest achievement of 2021? Definitely that cold read series. Besides being great fun, it was just a really big commitment, and I was so proud to read all of that. It was really great.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? What's your most embarrassing moment of 2021? Actually, for the 2016 to early 2021 stretch, gonna answer that first question with: Donald fucking Trump. Most embarrassing moment this year, hmmmm. I… can't think of one?

14. Where did most of your money go? Mortgage, then food, probably. We ate delivery waaaaay too much throughout lockdown and got too used to it. We did just buy a new rowing machine (rip my abs).

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Cold reads, and the new podcast with Jelly. And Voiceteam. These things have been great fun.

16. What song will always remind you of 2021? Uh. I have hardly listened to music this year, and nothing stands out.

17. Did you start any new hobbies? Ramped up the podficcing. I started learning Chinese on Duolingo just over a year ago.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Writing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Work. (This will likely always be work.)

20. How did you spend Christmas? With family and friends at my mom's. (This will also likely always be the answer to this question.)

21. Did you fall in love in 2016 – 2021? You know, I did. I hate this question, normally, because I'm married and I'm not going to fall in love romantically unless something super bad happens first, so just. EH. BUT! I have fallen in love with Wang Yibo, Xiao Zhan, and the rest of The Untamed cast. They're just such goods. And gremlins. And nerds. I just love them all so much.

22. How many one-night stands? Discover any new restaurants? Yeah, a new one opened up here – Eldr+Ryme, a Scandinavian restaurant that is just so good.

23. What was your favorite TV program? What were you watching on TV in 2021? The Untamed. Still. But I also watched a bunch of other dramas, including Legend of Fei, Word of Honor, TGCF, SVSSS, Cherry Magic, and others I can't think of at the moment, but enjoyed.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Any TV you've given up on? Supernatural went away in 2019. Maybe even 2018. It was interesting watching the end from afar, and watching it be inextricably linked with the election.

25. What was the best book you read? Movie experiences of 2021 you'd like to remember? Only movie I remember watching in recent history is Matrix 4, and it was. A movie. I had thoughts and feelings about it, but I can't honestly pinpoint what they were. I still love Keanu to bits and pieces.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery? Knightwind Ensemble that I'm playing with. It's so good to be playing again.

27. What did you want and get? Any books to talk about? Nope.

28. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? New games? From… 2019 or maybe 2018? Overcooked (and Overcooked 2) and Stardew Valley. Briefly did Animal Crossing and decided the animations took too long to fuck around with.

29. What was your favorite film of this year? Fandoms you entered/left? Fannish activities you started/ended? As I said, left SPN in late 2018, I think. I had a flash in the pan affair with Good Omens for the summer and fall of 2019, and then I fell headfirst into The Untamed and I have not looked back. I have watched a number of other C dramas that I have adored, but Chen Qing Ling still has my heart.

30. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Talk about your 'ships. It is so nice to have a canon juggernaut like WangXian. I also ship (to the crossed out question), Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan, the actors who played the canon juggernaut ship. They're both so pretty and good and just. I love them both, and it would be amazing if they were together (but I'm not like, going nuts if they're not – I'll still write them anyway, because they're really fucking pretty).

31. What did you want and not get? Any headlines you remember? Trump incites riot at presidential swearing-in. The Evergreen gets stuck.

32. What political issue stirred you the most? Black Lives Matter. Capitalism run amok/the rise of the union.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2021? Any new fashion items for you? These weird palazzo pants with crazy designs that I'm enjoying. Somewhere in the last several years, we've started wearing skirts and dresses, particularly in the summer. Leggings are a huge part of my wardrobe now, and I have multiple things that are pink.

34. What kept you sane? Food memories of 2021? Eldr+Ryme mostly, and a few new restaurants on Grubhub making delivery healthier and less boring. Mostly Mitchell's Fish and Zuppas.

35. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 51 and nothing, actually. I don't ever really do much for my birthday.

36. WhoWhat did you miss? Writing, in the last several months of the year.

37. Who was the best new person you met? Jelly! That was… 2020? Late 2019? But she zoomed into my life and it's been great having her here. Also my wife's friends Enji and Kitti have been wonderful, and the author of the series that I coldread, Sami, and her wife V.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2021 2020. NO MATTER WHAT: make lucky sauerkraut for New Year's and eat it (I had three huge bowlfuls this year).

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. Where do you want to be next year at this time? With my wife, friends, and family, in a fandom I enjoy, and in good health. <------- Yeah, still true. I'd also like to be getting my promotion and big bonus and thus looking seriously at buying a house. <-------- Sadly, still true. <----------- The first bit is still true, but I got that promotion, we got our house, and then I got a new job, another promotion, and now am starting on another new job!

40. Did you enjoy this year? For the first time, I'm going to say no. There was way too much garbage and nowhere near enough good. Fuck 2015, and let's ring in 2016. <--------- Gonna agree here. 2020 and 2021 were fucking garbage. 2022, please to not suck kthxbai.

That's a hard meme!

Knightwind is giving me hope about being human in another tab. --- how lovely to be part of a musical group. It looks like you're playing through your masks: how does that work?

Also, happy new year! Looks like c-drama can keep your fannish fires burning for at least a decade.
