Day 2

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.

Well, I have a ton of really great memories of fans and fandom, so I'll go with the most recent one. For boring reasons related to my job, I had to spend a day in my old stomping grounds while I waited for a flight. I made plans with a couple of fannish friends and we decided to get crepes and watch Call Me By Your Name (we're all slash fans, it totally makes sense). We got to the crepe place early, though, so we ended up wandering down the street and FOUND A NERD CAFE. There were porgs painted on the window and Wonder Woman was on the TV and all of the drinks had nerdy names and it was a delight. We stayed in there and watched Lip Sync Battles for like, an hour, and it was glorious.

A nerd café! Excellent. I remember coming upon a yarn stall at a knitting fair where a range of yarns were named after Lord of the Rings characters/settings. As I wanted to make a scarf with the script from the One Ring, this was particularly apt! But I had no fellow-fans with me, alas.

Oh, that's awesome! I love knitting fairs! I always go with my wife despite not being able to craft anything at all. That sounds like an amazing yarn business - I'd love the see the One Ring scarf!

Sadly I haven't actually knitted the scarf - I made a start but soon realised that the yarn wasn't right for double knitting - it didn't stick together enough, and was probably also too fine, so that the script didn't work. :-( I have different yarns now, so maybe I'll have another go.
