Summary: I really enjoyed this opening, but it felt off from the rest of the fic, so I pulled it out and rewrote it to jump in a little more quickly. The fic was started back in Season 8, so Kevin had just moved into the bunker, it looked like Cas was going to be human and I had hopes for him moving in, so basically it was going to be one giant slumber party all the time! Considering what's happened since I started the fic, though, I felt using Kevin as such a minor character in this way just wouldn't work, so I shifted his part to Charlie and took out almost all of his/her involvement. I still like this (rather long!) deleted scene, so I thought I'd include it anyway.

Fests I expect to participate in next year: The only ones I can say for sure are ante_up_losers exchange and big bang, kink_bingo, and spn_j2_xmas. Maybe others that catch my eye, but I'm trying to scale back because I hate defaulting (like I did on the femslash exchange).


My favorite piece of this year: Third Time's the Charm will forever be one of my favorites. Sam/Cas, awkwardness, getting over heterosexual tendencies, friend-sex... yeah. It was fun and awesome.

My best piece this year: Let the Bodies Hit the Floor did exactly what I wanted it to do, and I wrote it in about an hour. It was brilliant.

Most fun piece: The Winchesters' Big Gay New Year's Eve Party was a delight, such fun to write, even at the end when I was totally drunk. Maybe especially then.

Most sexy piece: The Three Body Problem was like, half porn, and I'm really proud of it.

Piece with the single sexiest moment: The Three Body Problem has half a dozen of my favorite sexy things I've ever written. I'm seriously proud of it.

Most depressing piece: So tough to choose. So many of my episode caps are vaguely depressing, because I like to keep the caps within canon, if I can. I suppose No Returns, Only Exchanges is fairly dismal.

Piece that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I think Practice Makes Perfect shifts Sam into a more Dean-like role, where he takes care of his brother whether Dean wants it or not. I like it.

Biggest Disappointment: Let It Snow, my spn_j2_xmas piece that my recipient never commented on. Another piece I wrote in roughly an hour, but it's... Well. It's okay. It's just not as good as the idea was in my head. Too rushed, both in my writing of it and the pacing of the story itself.

Biggest Surprise: Apologies and Other Disasters has become an enormous hit. Certainly proves that posting in chapters is the way to go if you want to get the hit count, bookmarks, and subscriptions.

Most Unintentionally Telling piece: Well, it's not unintentional, but I sure voice all the opinions in my babbling about The Three Body Problem, including a few strong feels about Dean and the right to die.

Favorite opening line paragraph: From Walking in Circles: Sam buys himself a bottle of Patron. He'd go for scotch or whiskey, but it reminds him too much of Dean, and he's got enough oozing wounds on his psyche to do something so self-flagellating as drinking his brother's poison.

Favorite closing line paragraph: From Practice Makes Perfect: After the show, they pack their stuff into the Impala and head out to another motel and another gig somewhere down the road, the next in a long line of motels and gigs. Castiel knows he will follow them in this life just like the other, but in this one, when he watches them from the shadows, it will be only to see them smile.

Excerpts from my current works-in-progress:
Alt!season 7 story where Cas actually becomes God for real:

Mary lifted her face into the sun. It was one of those perfect days, clear and not too warm, the breeze not quite crisp enough to foretell the fall coming, just a few weeks now. She had Sam in her lap, gurgling with a big smile on his face, such a happy baby. John was playing catch with Dean, throwing him easily catchable lobs and Dean's delighted laughter every time he caught one made her smile.

She couldn't remember anything more perfect, it was the kind of day that would stick forever in her memory, especially when Dean ran over to give her a kiss and she grabbed him up, unable to contain how much she loved him, and John laughed and snapped a photo, always quicker with the camera than she expected.

The day was endless, out in the sun, her and her boys, exactly as she always pictured them.

Cas tries to get with Dean using female vessels:

"Hey Dean," Sam said, nudging him under the table. "That girl's staring at you."

Dean's smile grew into a smirk and he nodded his thanks at Sam for the heads up. He turned around subtly, to see who might be checking him out and choked on his beer. She was a young girl, eighteen at the most, and she looked practically virginal, with straight, brown hair, a sweater set, and an intense, serious look on her face.

Jensen RPF where he's just coming to understand he's not straight:

"Yeah, so, Misha and I had a long talk and that's when he mentioned the sexuality thing, and by that time we'd been spitballing an actual storyline for Dean and Cas and I… it was…" He hesitates. They were drinking pretty heavily last night, and Jensen doesn't remember all of it with clarity, but he does remember the jumble of mixed up feelings he had about Dean and Cas becoming more than friends. It was a roar of emotions all stuck together into one big ball, but the one that flayed him open was fear.

"Confusing?" Danneel provides.

"Terrifying," Jensen counters.

Alt!Season 9 fic where Sam actually closes the gates of hell:

He can hear music, true resonating notes in a beautiful language, telling him the secrets of the ages, letting him know he is loved and forgiven and his faith in God the absent father is restored. In that one instant he knows everything, he sees the great design and can feel the smile of his creator as he looks on, watching Sam's final accomplishment.

Then one of the notes rings false, a glaring error in the celestial harmonies, and Sam is falling, and falling fast – so very fast, into darkness so complete his very existence is like a flame snuffed out.

The weird time-travel, dimension hopping AU thingee, titled 'WMTDI':

"No."

Dean clenches his hands into fists and releases them purposefully. Sam isn't supposed to get to him, he's supposed to get to Sam. "Come on, she likes you. All it takes –"

"All it takes is coercing a girl I like into having sex with me, knowing we're leaving in less than a week," Sam says. "All it takes is me being a complete douchebag. I don't want to, Dean. I'm not you."

"Hey," Dean says, clenching his fists again. "This isn't about me. Virgin-eating hags can't smell me from half a mile out."

"Yeah, it's about me, and just because you have no problems ruining a girl's reputation doesn't mean I'm going to."

Dean rolls his eyes. God he hates teenagers, and high school, and whatever bullshit TV Sam's been watching that means he's worried about girls' virtue.

"Maybe I can find a guy to mess around with," Sam says, knocking Dean's entire world sideways with a comment that was creepily effortless in its delivery.
