From libitina, a really great read, and an awesome article I have things to say about (because the title applies to me): Deeply Embarrassed White People Talk Awkwardly About Race. My energy is too low to produce volumes about this right now, but the article really speaks for itself and is worth a read. I'm sure beware the comments applies, though I didn't actually read them.

My favorite part is the handcuffs!



ante_up_losers is live! There are 20 items in the Exchange and 6 items in the Scramble! I hope to be able to put some more things in the scramble over the next few days, but I was sort of writing my story to the very last second before reveals. I know, totally not like me at all. *koff* Run over and take a look - so much good stuff, including icons, graphics, fanmixes, poetry, art, podfic, and of course fic!

Speaking of, I got the most gorgeous fic in the universe in the exchange, Persephone is having sex in hell, gorgeous, dark, and perfect Aisha/Jolene - so so so beautiful, I can't even, it's like someone took all my favorite things out of my brain and made it into the perfect story for me. I can't lie, I know my author, not just because I made the assignments, but because I betaed the story, and man. Re-reading it now is just the most wonderful sweetness. I love love love it. Two major character deaths, not a happy ending. Murder.

And I got art in the scramble, too, amazing, gorgeous WERECAT ART. Cool Cats. :D :D :D :D :D Cat is based on storm_petrel's the first eight don't count (one of my favorite werecat stories bar none) and then there's were-Cougar, IN A HAT. How much do I love these pieces? THIS MUCH. OMG, these hit every one of my buttons and then a few I didn't know I had.

I was randomly spoiled for the end of House by a post on an entirely different topic. It was distressing, actually. I don't know that I'll ever finish watching House (I can't even remember when I stopped, season seven, maybe?), but I didn't know what happened and now I do and it was a shock to my system and I'm feeling a little strange and a bit sad.

I think that's the end of my list of random things. I am betaing fic for a good friend that hasn't written in a while and it's so pleasing to see them write, I can't even tell you. So I'm off to do that, and I'll be back tomorrow to catch up on things, now that my Ante Up obligations are done and I have some breathing room.

ETA: Nope, not the end. Just talking to soleta and mentioning that I am close to putting up my 200th fic on the AO3, and I'm pretty sure it's going to end up being Supernatural dubcon Sam/Dean/Castiel. That or fic about Sam losing his viriginity. And she groaned and said "You should write a special fic for your 200th fic," and I said, "Well, I could always finish the Cougar hooker!fic," and she said, "Yes, fine, good. As long as it's not Supernatural."

The Cougar hooker!fic is a gift - I've gotten stuck on it, maybe halfway through. It's weird and has three or four different tenses in it (purposely!) and while I love it, I'm... kinda afraid of it now. I was hoping to finish it in time for the Scramble, but I was writing my actual Ante Up story right until the finish line, so.... :(

And yeah, I kind of love embarrassing her with Supernatural, now. I'm not shameable about it anymore, so it's just sort of amusing. :D

Oh, you'll get it. And likely it will be my 200th story, just because of timing and interest. Even with the Cougar hooker!fic.

ETA: Huh, this comment seems a lot more serious in text than it was in my head. This is all good! Yay, Wincestiel dubcon (yes, Wincestiel is the only portmanteau I like in this fandom - it's so.... pleasing).

Ahahahaha, I... will actually take you up on that, for a number of reasons. Partially because yay, hooker!fic, but I also trust your opinion and the story's a little strange, format-wise, and I think if anyone was going to be able to either get what I was going for or just be able to tell me, no, this is not working, it's you. Well, and Meghan, but no Losers for her, so yeah.

Speaking of, I was checking stories to make sure they were done yesterday and got caught up in reading yours, and it is amazing. I'm going to go and read and comment on all the Ante Up stuff today, but man. I love the way you write, bb. <3

And Heh, re: my fic, were you reading during the hours when I was periodically updating with, like: "2:30am, and editing like mad!" "it's 3am! I'm going to get it done, I swear!" (I had my editing all planned and neat, and then I spent a chunk of it... editing into what I think was a read-only document. Yeah. Last-minute editing scramble a-hoy! etc)

:D :D :D Hooker!fic, yayyyyyy! It's for lady_krysis so I do want to finish it, it's just become super-intimidating because it was a strange format when I started and I haven't looked at it in months. D:

The dubcon Wincestiel is one of the this-SPN-story-is-actually-two-stories thing. I had a really clear picture of it, then the second story in the middle happened, and now it's gone a little fuzzy. I need to think through it more, make sure I'm hitting all the notes I want to.

I'm so glad! I found that article to be really excellent, especially because I feel really stupid and sad sometimes when I think about my privilege and it's so easy to want to stick your head in the sand. Like, there's no way to do it right, so I might as well give up. Those people, the CARW people, they're doing it right. It makes me really hopeful and inspired.

I really liked the article. There's some telling little things in it. For example, that annoying walk blocking the street? What they don't mention in there is how that's an evolution from something else that happens in our neighborhood. It may be a Superfly walk claiming the 'hood by some of the kids with bad anger issues now, but that's not where the habit started. Some of the older folks who are NOLA and Texas refugees here from Katrina will characterize it in conversations on transit as, "These streets are narrow, the fences are old and broken down, and I don't know when the drug dealer's pit bull or the gang-bangers are gonna come tearing out of the back yard to hurt me, and I want all the warning I can get."
That's the kind of eye-opener that will make you think twice about assuming it's just a style thing.
