Oh, this is both easy and hard. Choosing a theme is usually more difficult than choosing the fanworks. It's late and I'm tired, so I'm going to rec one for each pairing within my Supernatural OT3 (Wincestiel): Sastiel, Destiel, and Wincest.

OMG you guys, this story! Sam's pain is beautifully rendered. I like this especially because there's often the feeling in fandom that Sastiel is the cute and fluffy couple, so you don't see a lot of angst like this. It's good - it's really good.

The decaying warehouse, the symbols painted in red on the walls. The man standing at the far end of the long room. The light bulbs above Castiel’s head shattered one by one as he drew towards the man; he vaguely felt sparks blooming like flowers in the air around him, and bullets brushing lightly through the skin of his vessel. The man drew his knife. It flashed coldly in the dying light.

“I’m the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition,” Castiel said.

Dean. Dean Winchester. Dean speaking, and Castiel answering. The sound waves met in the air, superimposing in a steep arc. Dean’s eyes were locked on Castiel’s. He had been waiting for this moment for centuries. Eons.

Longer.

So one of the things that can be overlooked in fanfic is the language. This one is beautiful and rich, and the story weaves a terrific tapestry with canon. Lovely story.

Summary: They're still reeling from Dean's stint in Purgatory, the Trials are tearing them apart, the world hangs in the balance (again)—and Dean wants to get a pool table and have a sex marathon. Of course he does.

The word for this fic is relentless. The boys are relentless, the plot is relentless, the boys' doubts are relentless. It's an amazing read, and a chunk of canon that was left out of the show and fits right into late season 8. It's like a cut bit of film; the story itself is a solid block of atmosphere, and it simply ends, it doesn't resolve, so take note: it might take you some time to reorient yourself after this. You don't want to read this in a hurry.

If you do have time, it is the most perfect Sam POV, and it doesn't forgive Dean his sins, either. Gorgeous. Perfect characterization, dialogue, and atmosphere. Beautiful.

Fandom Snowflake Day 3

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

Oh, man, this is tough. I love so so so many things, and it's tough to actually pick a bit of canon that stands out above all the others.

But let me go with this: Death's entrance in season 5 of Supernatural. Honestly, I think this might be my #1 scene in the whole of the 14 year canon. It's just so awesome. The timing, the lighting, the music, the EVERYTHING. Not to mention the casting is perfection. I can't even describe it, so here, let me show you.
