Writing, commentary, y halo thar

So, alright, I don't think anyone anywhere is interested, but just in case, I put my name down as an author on
dvd_commentary, here. I seriously think some of my earliest stuff could be done MST3K style, as badfic, ha.
And so, I thought I would post (for possibly the only time ever) that everything I write is posted on my writing journal,
lusty_daydreams. I'm thinking of changing *that* journal to
kisahawklin and then renaming this one
kisa_hawklin because... I dunno. Because I didn't think people would ever read my writings, so I didn't think it would matter what I called my writing journal. But now people can't find stuff, and they ask here from time to time. It's a weird experience.
Okay, by far more interesting to me is deciding what I want to write commentary on. You all know by know that I worship
fiercelydreamed, but she's written her own commentary to Unidentified and she's halfway through Rebuilding Babel and I don't know what I'd really be able to add. I don't think the commentaries are supposed to be "Squee! Squee! Squee!"
I was thinking of doing one of my standby favorites - one of the stories that I go to time and again, but none of the authors are on the list. So that leaves things that are huge and made me go O_O and again - I don't think I have too much to say that isn't just "OMG! SO AMAZING!" Like, jesus, what do you say about Freedom's Just Another Word? And besides,
synecdochic has posted a DVD commentary of her own, again, more insightful than I could ever be.
I don't think I'd do anything that wasn't SGA, and there are several of my favorite authors on there...
cupidsbow (and OMG, love her, but would feel IDIOTIC trying to do commentary on one of her fics),
seperis (and the one I'd love to do is the one she's not posted completely yet, arg!),
cesperanza (but she's already got one offer, and I'm sure she'll get more)
synecdochic and
fiercelydreamed (and I believe we've covered this above)... I just don't know.
In general? I think my problem with doing a commentary is that I worry I won't have anything interesting or insightful to say; at least, nothing that can do any more justice to a fic I love than it does for itself. That's why I like the fics I do - they're perfect they way they are. What could I possibly add?
And I think that I'd really like to do a piece by someone lesser-known, because what a thrill for the author, right? And I like to point out pieces that people might have missed and deserve some measure of attention.
I did just notice
scribblinlenore offered her fic, and I'm considering 101 Ways To Get Lucky (In Love), but that's pretty popular too... maybe I'll email one of the authors on my 'rainy day fics' list and ask them to give me permission. *thinks*

on 8/2/08 09:01 pm (UTC)God knows I read enough fic to have enough to babble about.

on 8/2/08 08:34 pm (UTC)I was just backreading your journal (and that's sounds vaguely creepy, but I was just looking for a fic index because I didn't want to go through the author post again) and remembered how much I loved your stories... hrm. Maybe I'll do two commentaries.
I hate to promise, since I've got a fair amount on my plate, but I'll sure give it a good ole college try. You definitely deserve a commentary!

on 8/3/08 06:20 am (UTC)I know. *sniffs in a tragic but noble way*
It would be totally awesome if you did one, but no pressure on my side. I know what it's like to have an overflowing plate!

on 8/3/08 12:58 pm (UTC)Okay, so assuming I can make a better commentary on one of those because I am more familiar with them, then, lessee. I think that One Peace at a Time is out because it relies heavily on the story it remixed, which would require permission from that author, I think, and also I would probably end up doing commentary for both.
Class: Insecta is intimidating to me, and I don't know why. I'm not going to examine that too closely.
soon again gone is so popular! Everybody loves it, and there's all this stuff... Hrm. It's probably my number two choice.
The thing about Sheppard's choice, though, is that I'm not a particularly good feminist, and while I recognized the brilliant turn of the trope on its head, I worry that I might not do it justice. But I think this is still my favorite because it really gave me a feeling of awe at the end - and does again every time I read it - that I'd like to share something about my personal reaction with other readers. Even with my nerves, I think this is probably my first choice.

on 8/3/08 05:36 pm (UTC)You are made entirely of win. I am very much looking forward to what you have to say about Sheppard's Choice.
And for what it's worth, Class:Insecta intimidates me too!

I think the reader's reaction to specific lines is interesting enough. I always wonder what other readers think about lines that were important for me, if the words brought up similar imaginations/emotions/thoughts. I think whatever you feel like saying is worth speaking it out, especially for the author.

I never wrote 30stm fic seriously, and it's been a while since I've seen the guys, so I don't feel like I should put it up now. I still intend to finish and post my gigantic Colin/Jared epic (it's at 90,000 words now, and nearly complete), but I want to finish a gigantic John/Rodney SGA epic I'm nearly done with first. And I'll post that to a couple communities - probably
And yeah, I'm going to do commentaries. At least one, as I just told

Oh yeah, still waiting for the C/J fic and I look forward to get the next chapters, but take your time - I'm a patient person :)

on 8/7/08 01:02 am (UTC)SGA is an incredible wellspring of amazing fanfic. There is just huge amounts and in general, the level is quite readable. And there is some stuff that is just mind blowing, it reads as good or better than original fic. And then there's the copious amounts of porn. I prefer my porn to have a plot (and if I must choose between the two, I choose plot), but there's plenty of PWP and porn WITH plot to go around. Plus a huge amount of hilarious crack. The show itself? I like it. I mostly like it for the characters, even though the writers are inconsistent with them. I like the show, but I LOVE the fandom.
Hee, you will see it, I promise. Actually... hrm. Why don't I send you what I've got? It's really mostly done - I only have one big chunk to write. It's not quite at the level of what I'm writing now, but my SGA fic is stalled, and I always meant to post the Colin/Jared before I posted my SGA epic. It's in googledocs in two parts, would that work for you?

on 8/8/08 10:52 am (UTC)I just created an account and will try to see this through, if I don't manage I will let you know (otherwise I always prefer .rtf formats) :)
For my girlfriend's staying for a couple of days I can start to work on next week's sunday, but I guess you're not in a hurry.
