January is traditionally a time when people set goals for themselves for the coming year, and even if New Year’s resolutions aren’t your thing, maybe you have something you want to achieve this year. Maybe that’s to finish a fic that’s been sat in your WIP folder for ages, maybe to learn a new skill, maybe to check out some new shows.

In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

I did vaguely set fannish goals. Writing-wise, my commitment was 240 days, with no minimum word limit. I'll probably make that because it's enough shifted goalposts to be reasonable for me. I don't feel bad if I only get 10 words.

I'd like to keep up my duolingo streak. I'm over 2 years now, and I'd love to at least get the stuff I've learned so far permanently embedded in my brain.

Other than that, I'm honestly just trying to survive the next couple of years.

The notifications save me for real. Sometimes I'll do my stuff really late and then do a quick lesson after midnight so I can do two days at once. Honestly, I just review the same stuff over and over and over again, I hardly ever do new things because it's use it or lose it, but I don't have brain to learn more right now, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good luck! I also need to keep up my Duolingo,where I tend to lose mine is if I go away anywhere I forget.

Yeah, I have zero schedule around duolingo, I can keep something up for a little while but then I'll forget one day and it goes back to scrambling when I get the notification message.

Thanks! I've got two years of it ahead of me, so just going to keep my head down and pray it ends in December 2024 like it's supposed to.

I like your writing commitment - very sensible to have a goal that you can reasonably expect to meet, and I like the idea of no minimum word limit. I might have to adopt that - I ought to be able to manage a sentence a day....

Many years of promising, making, and failing writing goals have taught me what my needs are based on what's going on in my life. This year I know I won't have the time or brain to do major goals, so this keeps me invested.

Thank you! Surviving is for real a goal rn. Surviving + any happiness or forward movement would be a massive bonus.

I like your habit goals. Setting reasonable expectations is a good idea and of course, trying to survive is the most important. Good luck! :D
