Snowflake Challenge #13

One thing I've discovered during my own time in fandom, and something that has been cemented reading responses at Snowflake, is that fannish joy is a very real thing.
That night you lay in bed reading an amazing fic until you realised that the birds were chirping outside of your window. That TV show/book/movie that grabbed hold of your heart in an instant. Meeting other fans for the first time, either virtually or in real life and realising you've got a new friend. Crafting something you're proud of. It all counts.
They don't have to be big things, you don't even have to describe in detail, or at all if you don't want to share. Just remember that fannish memory that still shines bright and bask in its glow.
Or multiple glows, there are no limits.
In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, wild times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.
That was such a lovely description I wanted to include it here, too. I have so many wonderful fannish memories. I have some of all of those above. One of my first fannish meetups was in California, with a person who came all the way from the UK! It was mind boggling, and so much fun. I had many, many more after that, in cities all over the U.S. and London (I've been meaning to get to Germany, and by god I will get there some day) and it's delightful every time. I've lost touch with fannish friends only to circle back with them in another fandom. I've watched and cheered from the sidelines as friends got into fandoms where I couldn't follow them. I imagine this happened to me too, especially when I entered C drama fandom - though hilariously I have discovered a lot of old fannish buddies here, which has been great.
I have online fannish relationships that have developed too, and shifted, and just... I love everyone in this bar, in every way that I interact with them, and I love the fandoms, too. The first memory I have of The Untamed is a gif of Lan Wangji's hair, and just... I knew I was lost. Then it came up on my netflix and I was a goner.
Falling into new fandoms is always one of my favorite types of memories. Making new friends and finding old ones are another. Making gifts specifically for someone or receiving them made specifically for me another. There is just so much joy in fandom. I laugh when kids ask why I'm still doing it at my age. My lovelies, I am never leaving. Why would you ever leave something behind that brings you joy? You think fandom is childish? You think you grow out of fandom? No. Never. Fandom is a network of my people, this is my home, this is my comfort. I will be here until I die, and I will love it and cherish it my whole life.
