kate | Re-intro!

Welp, with tumblr being dicks, it's good to see people here, at my true platform of choice (despite being absent for a while). This is honestly my blogging home and always will be, I love it here. I love how it works, I love the people who run it, and I love the people I've met here.

I'm honestly too busy to post anywhere right now, but I would like to put up a little something for the folks that are new to DW, because I have actually considered this place my home for many, many years now. I do also have

kisahawklin, which I used to post fic on, but now I just post fic at

kisahawklin and put the rest of my stuff here.

I'm on a bunch of discords, but they're all SPN-based and I have so little time, I can't really interact. One of them has another Kate, too, which is bound to get confusing. I'm also on twitter (

kisahawklin) and nominally on instagram (

kisahawklin, and I can't remember if I have a pillowfort or not, but if I do, I'm kisahawklin there, too.

Anyway - while you're here, take a look around! I haven't seen much movement in many communities lately, but we are coming up on the end of the year join-up for a lot of writing communities. For something with fairly strict rules and a lot of posting (2-3 posts a week and monthly check-ins, possibility of word wars almost any day of the week), try

getyourwordsout. They're signing up for next year starting next week.

For less rigidity but also less posting, try

inkingitout, which I am nominally a mod of, even though I kinda disappeared when my life exploded back in July. Signups for next year will be coming soon, I'm sure.

There are SPN comms but I don't think many of them have been particularly active. I'd love to see

episodic_supernatural moving forward again (we did a tagathon for seasons, um... 11-12? And I still do episode caps a lot of the time because of that).

Hey duck! Good to see you here! I've been seeing you pop up over on diiscord too - I haven't hardly spoken up there at all, it's just more interaction than I can handle, particularly because it can be so real-time.

I've actually had my dw since 2015 just haven't used it that much. my friends either stayed on lj or scattered to twitter.. but I still love the concept of dw

Right?! I joined like, ten servers and now I'm all shy and weird and also too busy to interact at that level, so I'm feeling out of place over there.

ohhhh I am working on my spn_j2_xmas fic today. at least trying to plot it a little!

discord is just so busy, and I have huuuuge issues with being unacknowledged and it just kinda always happens in online groups? (like not once or twice, but EVERYTHING) so I am SO wary in those sorts of environments.

I can see it's great for small groups and chats, but I won't/don't manage to keep up...

Me too! I mean, it did a little - a lot of people were here, but they didn't move in fandom clumps, so I ended up making a bunch of new friends. Which is what I did on tumblr too, and now I'm doing on discord, so.... I guess that's just the way it works. *shrug*

Yeah, I've had the plot for mine since I got the prompts (they were AMAZING prompts), and I've written a couple of scenes, but I'm really scared I'm not going to do the idea justice. And my recipient seems really cool and I don't want to disappoint.

Yeah, discord is... a different environment than I prefer. If I have time, I can get into it, but I just don't, and it takes so much work. Way more than either tumblr or DW. It's funny because my writer's group has been in slack foreeever, and we love it. And discord is basically just like slack? But I don't like it with a bunch of people I don't know and am only just starting to figure out the social conventions of, so... yeah. It'll work out one way or another I'm sure. I'll probably settle down to a couple of discords I like and leave the rest. I've already seen some personalities I'm not getting along particularly well with, so...

It's true! It's hard to adapt on other formats. I was scrolling back on my Tumblr and realizing that I actually had adapted, but then things happened in my life and I said "fuck it, I have no time for multiple social media sites" and had to give one up and I took the less time-intensive one. I don't even remember how I did fandom when I had a more time-intensive job before, but I think it's also that I was younger and didn't have a baby. Well, he's a teenager now.

ANYWAY. You are awesome. How have you guys been?

Yeah- I adapted too! Like, I did figure out the conventions of tumblr to some degree, but starting over in a new social media environment is exhausting. I managed to make a few lovely friends and I hope we keep up, but 90% of my interaction with tumblr was reblogging pretty things with little to no discussion. Not my ideal way to get along with people.

We're good here - bought a house! Another thing I don't have the time or energy for. /o\ Mostly because work just got out of control somewhere in July and is just now starting to lighten up a little bit. We're weeks away from a major finish line which should make my life a lot simpler after that. Hoping next year is a little less hectic. I miss my writing habit, not to mention time for DW and other places I like to see people. <3

Thank you! I remember how hard it was those first days of DW trying to find other folks with similar interests. I would love it if the tumblr fen moved here permanently, and I want to help as much as possible! (But I doubt this is really the platform for them, unfortunately.)
