So, there are a couple of interesting things going on right now. Amongst the dwircle:

+ nanila did a points giveaway thingee, and a few folks on my flist got some! Yay for nanila and yay for the recipients and yay for the people who nommed them!

+ clavally whipped off an amazing Peter & Neal White Collar fic! It is really lovely and heart-clenching and makes me want to squeeze them all so hard. :D :D :D

Peter must decide if it's the right decision for them, but what will he find in Neal's head if they go through with it?

This story starts right around the beginning of Season 2 and ends towards the end of Season 3.

And then there are my RL things. Right now my life consists of the following:

+ Football! I'm not a huge soccer fan but we've been watching everything, and it's a little surprising how much you can pick up by osmosis.

+ Psych rewatch in the evenings. We're halfway through S5 and the Gus&Shawn dynamic makes me squee every time. I just love them. I also love how great Jules and Lassie are as partners.

+ Work. I think I'm technically done with the project this week, but I'll probably still work on it next week to make sure I have the deliverables I promised. I also have another project I need to get to tonight, and I have a gig in July! :D :D :D I don't know if it involves travel or not yet, but I am hoping so. If it does, I'll be in New Jersey.

+ Teeth. My wife and I are finally taking care of our teeth (apparently our dental insurance is amazing!). Tomorrow I get three teeth pulled so I can get braces to straighten them out. Yup, I'm getting braces at age 44. It'll take two years. Whee.

+ Right now we're watching the S3 opener of Perception. I really enjoy this show so far except for Daniel's fucking conducting. He does not conduct properly (he conducts the classical music he listens to) and it drives me fucking nuts. ETA: And he just smashed a cello - a professional player's cello! - and I.... teared up. I just. I knew it was coming and I was hiding my face behind my hands because I knew it, and I just kept going "no no no no no no no no no" and then he did and I cried a little. I am SO SAD. That was TOTALLY UNNECESSARY and oh, MY HEART. So that makes me a little sad and angry. But I'll be over it by next week.

That's kinda it, I think. What's up with you?

Oh! Wtg you for getting braces! I've been considering it (at almost 34I) because my teeth are super cramped :/ :/ and they were just not in the budget growing up (& honestly, it would have been a disaster anyway). I think maybe being an adult is better for it anyway. My mom had a friend who did braces in her 40's. She just finally had the cash and wanted it - so why not? I have a bunch of other stuff that needs doing before I make that leap, though. :/ Augh, teeth.

Thank you! I'm pretty excited about it, tbh. When my wisdom teeth came in, they made my top teeth crooked and I've wanted to have that fixed for years. Now it's time! It took a solid six months worth of work at the dentist/oral surgeon before we got there, though (my wife's getting braces too).

I've never heard of Perception. How can there be a series in its third season I've never heard of?! Would you rec it?

I've just finished up the fanworks meme, and I can already tell I'm going to miss it. It was great for getting me posting regularly, and it gave me an opportunity to add in a few other RL or fannish things that I wouldn't normally consider enough to be a post. So thanks for putting it on my radar!

I really like Perception, myself. I like the main character (who is schizophrenic) and the lady FBI agent, Kate (played by Rachel Leigh Cook) and his T.A./assistant, Lewicky, who is a young black man. PLUS! OMG! Levar Burton is the dean! He's awesome! There's more in my comment to clavally below; I can't speak for how accurately the schizophrenia is represented, so keep that in mind.

That fanworks meme was awesome! We need more like that. I like reading people talk about their fanworks.

Yeah, I got all the way through S5 last time, so I remember the tap dancing, and yeah, I totally loved it. I also loved your fave S4 eps you mentioned too.

I'm doing the normal metal ones. The invisalign ones weren't even given to me as an option (and are honestly probably too pricey, even for my amazing coverage).

YYYYYYY - new gig and hopefully travel again, because even though these last four months have been amazing, I'm going a tiny bit stir crazy. And my miles and points are dwindling to nothing. :(

He is schizophrenic! And I have NO IDEA if it is a reasonable representation or not. They generally treat it well though - I think it's a sympathetic reading of a schizophrenic character, and it's important that there is a sympathetic schizophrenic main character in a US TV show? I think? But he just smashed a cello to pieces and I am suddenly feeling a lot less sympathetic to him. (They treat other minorities with decency too - I can't remember which now, but I remember being impressed with their handling of some stuff, a trans character, maybe? Ugh, it's been forever, I can't remember.) I like it, mostly, except I just teared up at the cello smashing. D: D: D:

Yyyyy, normally I get comments on fic that are one line, but half the comments I'm getting on this one are paragraphs long, which is making me O____O lol. Also, a lot of them are thanking me for handling it well and not character bashing, which makes me a little sad because that tells me that's happening a lot.

I think the metal ones work better anyway. Just don't schedule any fun dinners for the days the wires have to be tightened. :p

It's a great premise - I think it really touches a nerve. I don't read much White Collar fic, but I'm guessing there are people who villify one or the other of them, much like any fandom. Reminds me of McSheppers who actually hated half of the pairing (I will never understand this! Why are you writing them if you hate Rodney?).

Yeah, I'm not planning on having a lot of great dinners in the next two years. :(

I enjoy it (minus the cello smashing). And I'd be curious to hear if the representation is at all accurate.

Yeah, I certainly seemed to have touched a nerve. I got another multi-paragraph comment today, but this person wasn't too happy with some of my choices, but also told me they loved the story. It was actually a really thoughtful comment. I've been trying to decide what I'm going to say to them.

Huh. I just read that comment. I'm... in disagreement with her about calling Peter's talking to Neal a "chewing out" - that's a misinterpretation of what you've written (INTERROGATING THE TEXT FROM THE WRONG PERSPECTIVE OMG) and it's actually someone I bet bashes Peter for being mean to Neal. But I wouldn't say that. I'm sure you've responded to it by now, though, so no worries.

ETA: ahahaha, and reading your response, I realize I don't think you missed ANYTHING - I totally got exactly what you were going for, you were plenty clear. Not everyone is going to get it, but I totally did, so it's not a complete miss, not at all.

No, I totally agree. It was just a laying out of how they perceived the story (WRONG OMG) but still genial and I appreciated that they could enjoy the story even though they would've made different choices.

My mom had braces at...40ish? I am the worst at ages, but it's whatever age I was in 5th grade plus 32, so. And she had a way better orthodontia experience than I did, due to being a grownup and being far better at actually taking care of her teeth the way the dentist and orthodontist told her to.

I? had braces twice. I had braces foreeeeeever.

This was my thought too. I told my wife on the way home that if I'd gotten braces as a kid, I would've been awful - I would never have done what the orthodontist told me to, so it would've been a complete waste.

My wife's on her fourth go-round with braces. Because she didn't do what the orthodontist told her to. :)

Yeah, it was traumatizing. I never like the destruction of property when it's purely for dramatic effect, but in this case - I would have punched him in the face! There is NO WAY anyone would have gotten my cello away from me. And just... it wasn't ACTUALLY a professional player's cello, but if it had been, it would have been like destroying a piece of art! Very very belatedly - yay braces! I got my bottom braces off about two months ago and I'm so happy with how my teeth look. It's annoying for two years but so worth it. :D
