kateWow, another year gone. Okay, well, it was a rough year for me, creatively. Starting a new job, especially one as hard as consulting, with all the travel, has just been hell on wheels, and I've only just started to get back on track. Hopefully 2013 will be more productive for me. 2012 wasn't horrible, but it was a bit slow: 15 stories in 6 fandoms, total of 63,000 words.

My most popular story of this year: the antechamber of another world. This is a bit surprising, actually, but happy-making.
My favorite story of this year: It Runs in the Family. I'm loving SGA/Losers crossovers, and I just want to roll around in this one (tied tostorm_petrel's werecat 'verse) forever.
Most fun story to write: The Games People Play. It came sort of all at once but then I got stuck! And thensoleta swooped in and saved the day by writing a pivotal chapter, and I was able to finish it with no problem. That was awesome.
Sexiest story: Scenting, I guess? It's weird – there's a whole lot of porn in my WIP folders, but not much made it to posting. Maybe I'll finish a bunch and have lots of sexy stories next year.
Single sexiest moment: Old!John/young!Rodney blowjob in Contrary Motion, I think. Crap, or maybe the first Cougar/Jensen sex scene in antechamber. Shit, I can't decide.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I'm not sure this category even applies to me. I pretty much write whatever, and after my necrophilia fic, I'm not sure there's anything I can ever put here that'll come close.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Shall I Tell You About Angels. I love Team, but I haven't written much of it – it tends to be shippy fic that also has some nice team moments. This was well and truly team, and the shippy moments were so pale, you might not even be able to pick them out.
Hardest story to write: Ionisation was like pulling teeth, and it's not done yet, either. *sigh*
Biggest Disappointment: Sleeping Dragons. I really like that fic, and I didn't get a comment from my recipient. I was so pleased with it, which is why the disappointment is so big. If I had been 'meh' about it, I would've cared less.
Biggest Surprise: The number of requests for the rest of The Astrophysicist Job.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Scenting? I think I have a new kink. Thanks,kink_bingo. Oh, wait. Actually, it's probably Ionisation. There's a lot of music in that one, and a lot of my musical ideas and opinions.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? Less, because I had such a banner year last year and I was on track to have a great one this year. Job change seriously messed me up on that front.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2012? Fandom/pairing: Murder By Numbers RPF, Michael Pitt/Ryan Gosling. Pairing: Radek/Elizabeth in SGA. Genre: Steampunk was new for me, and scary.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them? Yeah, I made a first attempt at steampunk with antechamber of another world, which was scary as hell. I was in no way certain that I had done it justice. Now I need to sit down with Pistol for a gun beta and flesh out the fucking machine porn, and I can consider the story complete.
Do you have any fic goals for the New Year? Yeah. This year was a bit of a disappointment, writing-wise. I'd like to climb back on the horse with regular writing (hopefully in the mornings before work) and get a couple hundred thousand words this year. I'm doinginkingitout again and I've uploaded the 2013 wordtracker spreadsheet for anyone who wants to use it. I'm adding a goal of posting at least one story a month, with an option to go up to one story a week if things get moving along.
I'd like to thank the academy... Oh, there were so many helpers this year! I would not have gotten that chapter of Ionisation done withoutshaenie, the Priest fic would have been considerably worse if not for the efforts of ivorygates, and meghanc stayed up with me while I forced myself to finish my sga_santa pinch hit. Old friends whose help is always appreciated, silverraven and lady_krysis, and new folks on my list who stepped up to beta last minute stories, montanaharper and sian1359.
And always, always,soleta who is supportive and will beta any time, write that scene I can't do in the middle so I can actually move on and finish a story, and who tries her best not to let me sign up for too much stuff (and it's totally my own fault that she doesn't have a higher success rate at that).

storm_petrel's werecat 'verse) forever.Most fun story to write: The Games People Play. It came sort of all at once but then I got stuck! And then
soleta swooped in and saved the day by writing a pivotal chapter, and I was able to finish it with no problem. That was awesome.Sexiest story: Scenting, I guess? It's weird – there's a whole lot of porn in my WIP folders, but not much made it to posting. Maybe I'll finish a bunch and have lots of sexy stories next year.
Single sexiest moment: Old!John/young!Rodney blowjob in Contrary Motion, I think. Crap, or maybe the first Cougar/Jensen sex scene in antechamber. Shit, I can't decide.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I'm not sure this category even applies to me. I pretty much write whatever, and after my necrophilia fic, I'm not sure there's anything I can ever put here that'll come close.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Shall I Tell You About Angels. I love Team, but I haven't written much of it – it tends to be shippy fic that also has some nice team moments. This was well and truly team, and the shippy moments were so pale, you might not even be able to pick them out.
Hardest story to write: Ionisation was like pulling teeth, and it's not done yet, either. *sigh*
Biggest Disappointment: Sleeping Dragons. I really like that fic, and I didn't get a comment from my recipient. I was so pleased with it, which is why the disappointment is so big. If I had been 'meh' about it, I would've cared less.
Biggest Surprise: The number of requests for the rest of The Astrophysicist Job.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Scenting? I think I have a new kink. Thanks,
kink_bingo. Oh, wait. Actually, it's probably Ionisation. There's a lot of music in that one, and a lot of my musical ideas and opinions.Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? Less, because I had such a banner year last year and I was on track to have a great one this year. Job change seriously messed me up on that front.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2012? Fandom/pairing: Murder By Numbers RPF, Michael Pitt/Ryan Gosling. Pairing: Radek/Elizabeth in SGA. Genre: Steampunk was new for me, and scary.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them? Yeah, I made a first attempt at steampunk with antechamber of another world, which was scary as hell. I was in no way certain that I had done it justice. Now I need to sit down with Pistol for a gun beta and flesh out the fucking machine porn, and I can consider the story complete.
Do you have any fic goals for the New Year? Yeah. This year was a bit of a disappointment, writing-wise. I'd like to climb back on the horse with regular writing (hopefully in the mornings before work) and get a couple hundred thousand words this year. I'm doing
inkingitout again and I've uploaded the 2013 wordtracker spreadsheet for anyone who wants to use it. I'm adding a goal of posting at least one story a month, with an option to go up to one story a week if things get moving along.I'd like to thank the academy... Oh, there were so many helpers this year! I would not have gotten that chapter of Ionisation done without
shaenie, the Priest fic would have been considerably worse if not for the efforts of ivorygates, and meghanc stayed up with me while I forced myself to finish my sga_santa pinch hit.
