Two things.

Two completely incongruous things.

This is first thing after the fact - I'm pulling it down to show you how it's gapping.

cat scratch fever

This is what it looked like after having sat around the ER (first the normal one and then the eye ER - yes, we have an ER specifically for eyes! *feels proud*) for several hours.

cat scratch fever 1

This is me after being patched up. Whee.

cat scratch fever 2

And finally, with the stitches. Looks pretty darn good, I think!

Second, [livejournal.com profile] shaenie's incredible (and huge) fic, Indelible which has made my day bearable. I cannot tell you how fantastically brilliant this story is. There's slow-mo memory enhanced spanking (no, it's actually not kink, if you can believe it), an amazing space battle, unbelievably realistic John voice, perfectly flailing Rodney (physically and emotionally), the most awesome OFC ever (an Indian security officer, yay!) a plot the size of Kansas that she pulls off effortlessly, and gorgeous imagery and description everywhere. Amazing insights to all our favorite characters.

It's long - fifteen parts! - so you know that going in. I've read it over two days (I actually have three parts left, and I'm keeping them to savor tonight) and it's been the most fantastic rollercoaster ride. Seriously, I believe this is now my favorite SGA fic ever. No, not exaggerating at all. *thinks on [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed's Unidentified* Okay, maybe tied for first place. But seriously - this is on that level, so chock-full of goodness. I cannot possibly gush enough about this fic.

And now, I'm off to read the end of it. I cannot wait.

ETA: Yep, that's it. Officially tied for first in my list of SGA fics. I cannot recommend highly enough. SO F*CKING PERFECT.

I'm so glad you're okay. Random cat violence can be a horrible thing :)

Oh, sweetie. I saw your eyepatch comment in Shaenie's journal, then came back to my flist and saw the Stitches, whee! and I went "What the...what?" Poor eye! I hope it heals quickly and cleanly.

Indelible. Oh. My. God. I almost want to not have read part eleven so I can read it again, and again, and again. Which I will do anyway.

Dammit! This rec was for you! Who the hell am I going to force into reading this now?!?!!!

It's awesome, isn't it? And yes - part eleven. That may well be my favorite, though I don't know.

If I actually had time on my hands - HA - I'd offer to do [livejournal.com profile] dvd_commentary on this. It's so fucking perfect. ARG.

Hee! You'll find someone. Maybe it'll be the sweet lure that draws someone into the fandom, as Victors did for me.

I can't think what the mind-of-my-mind gorgeousness reminded me of, unless it's Julian May. But that doesn't quite feel right. That joy! So much joy in there, especially poignant after all the anger and despair.

Oh god I should go to sleep but what I really want to do is reread it NOW.

Holy moley! You were lucky you didn't get a claw in the eye.

What an awful experience...

I think I'm doing fine. Trying not to think about it too much right now, though I'm not quite sure why. I just keep thinking there'll be a right time to break down or whatever I need to do and that it's not yet. Maybe Monday, when we have the visitation?

Indi is worried about me, with my Joker/dark themes fixation at a time like this, but I welcome the distraction. It's not like I'm going to start slashing at my wrists or anything. Other peoples' misery is far more preferable to my own. :)

In related news, I recently got the DVDs of Brokeback Mountain (forgot how fabulous that was) and a movie called 'Casanova', which I enjoyed much more than I should've. Heh.

Honestly, it wasn't too terrible. I've had a near miss with a cat claw to the eye before. There was shock right in the beginning, but I could see, so that wore of pretty quickly. There was pain for the first hour or so (and when they didn't numb up the gouged part properly, at stitches time too), and the half day spent in the ER wasn't the funnest thing ever, but it was pretty okay other than that. And it looks surprisingly good - I don't think I'll have much of a scar.

I did go to sleep before thinking about rereading it. Jesus, the last thing I need right now is to stay up all night and read it again.

But so gorgeous, right? I love the realizations, the characterizations, just everything. Yum.

Grief is a funny thing (as are our coping mechanisms). It'll happen when it happens... or it won't. I'm not worried that you'll do anything silly, but just more... worried about you in a general sort of way. Losing a parent is a ridiculously hard thing, even at our age, and it sticks with you such a long time. It's been what, four years? since my dad passed, and I still think about him regularly.

I hated Casanova, but Heath is pretty fantastic in it. How's Twilight going?

Oh Casanova was stupid. It was the Heath and the costumes that made it brilliant and worth every penny, lol. I've not gotten too far on Twilight. It's not bad, but it's not fabulous. I'm thinking of handing it off to one of the kids to read as the idea of picking up a comic is a bit more intriguing to me right now...

It was worth it for the eyepatch, right? I mean, yarrr!

It woulda been, if they'd have given me the cool eyepatch. I had to wander around with half my face covered in gauze. :(

Ha, okay, that's hilarious. I thought for sure you'd love it.

Well, should one of the kidlets read it, lemme know what they thought! I'm intrigued, I gotta say - [livejournal.com profile] anima_mecanique, who thoroughly trashed the first book, calls the most recent one a train wreck. So bad, you have to keep reading. *shrug*
