Rough times.

Work was truly hell for the last six weeks. I don't want to talk about it, at all.

I am slowly working toward an even keel, but I am having a rough patch here, and it's been in a lot of areas that I am sort of generally trying to parse and not doing a particularly good job at. I might try the 7 lines from 7 WIPs meme because I need to look at what I'm writing and be happy for a change.

I am so behind on emails/comments to friends who are also having a tough time. It's tougher to be supportive when you're in a low place yourself. I'll try, but I can't promise anything on that front.

And now I am going to see a movie. I thought I was going to see San Andreas because I love apocalypse/disaster movies + THE ROCK, but I just saw good things about Spy with Melissa McCarthy, and I think I might go see that instead, and save the disaster for next week.

Also, it's my birthday coming up, and that always fucks with my emotions, so that's probably part of it, too. This is one of those times where I just remind myself to be kind to myself, and float along, doing what I can do, until things start to move for the better.

I was getting stubborn about doing things outside the last few days because the weather is ramping up toward 102 degrees F tomorrow, and that kind of heat makes me sick after very little time or exertion. So it's ridiculously warm as of 9 am, and I'm already heading for the icewater. But the chaos got sorted, family got off on their trip okay, laundry got done, friends have come through for me, a lot got done. Accidental oversights have become benefits instead, like doors left open at night allowed venting of heat and soaker hoses left running very slowly for drought-stressed plants left dry for 2 months or so. It's tempting to starting singing "que sera sera," but I don't want to take that kind of luck for granted!

I made whitefish risotto (by accident) and it was delicious (but no cheese, I'm a bad Wisconsinite).

So sorry it's hard. Birthdays are the PITS! For me they dredge up every icky family interaction, as well as all my unfulfilled hopes.

Good things: I'm doing pretty well these last couple of weeks, such as one can with chronic illness. We've planned fun things to do with our house, including a high tech doorbell/security camera that I'm way too jazzed about.

A few good things from here: our kittens are still marvelous; we're going to Ontario very soon; my Ginny is moving here very soon after that (coming home with us, basically); and the warm weather has FINALLY arrived and the lilacs are out.
