But here's a few things I thought of at work today (one of those days filled with tedious busywork and nothing interesting... but I can listen to music, which led to some of this stuff).

+++ Watching Firefly right now, and man, every inch of this show is just as good as I remember. Everyone is so damn pretty, and everyone is so complicated, and I really really really want the Kaylee/Inara friendship/teaching porn. With lots of giggling and hairbrushing and smiles. And Jayne/everyone (especially where Jayne is all submissive) and all the Zoe/Wash in the world. And gen fic about Book. And Book-Inara friendship fic. ALSO, THIS JUST IN: Itty bitty Simon was played by Zac Efron. Hee hee hee.

+++ BREAKOUT KINGS. I love this show - I am sincerely hooked. lady_krysis wrote Ray/Charlie fic, No Need for Even Going. True to form, she likes Ray and Charlie (especially Charlie) and I, of course, love Shea, Lloyd, and Erica. Especially Shea. He is . Also I love Lloyd because he's a dorky geek with no social skills but of course ridiculously smart and sure of his smarts.

??? We had our office party today. We do them monthly to just celebrate whatever birthdays/weddings/pregnancies/house buyings/whatever comes up. Normally the big boss dude doesn't come to these parties. I would've said he was avoiding them (which is probably fine, as the entire office is women and he's a dude's dude), but he's showed up for the last couple, and been remarkably friendly. This time, in a lull in the conversation, he says, in a voice loud enough for the whole room to hear, "Who here is watching Game of Thrones?" You could've heard a pin drop in the room. The only other fannish person in the room (that I was sitting next to) muttered "Ronon" in my ear, and I grinned. Everyone else was just sort of stunned into silence. I said something about George R. R. Martin and catching up on episodes and he said that you can find special features on the HBO website. The rest of the women in the office all just sort of looked bemused and then went back to talking about their gardens and diets. SO. WEIRD. (I haven't seen any Game of Thrones yet, btw, or I would've had better things to say. I've only read half of the first book and it was years ago and I was totally flailing.)

+++ The cake for the celebration was the deliciousest thing ever. Moist almondy cake with light lemon frosting in between the layers, covered in buttercream and marzipan. OM NOM NOM.

--- So, someone posted a bunch of music the other day, and was lamenting the fact that they now knew that John Mayer is kind of a dick. I love John Mayer's stuff - I like his lyrics and some of the music parts (not all of either) and I... it's one of those things that makes me sad, when people whose art I like are dicks. I wouldn't spend money on John Mayer anymore, but what about people like Matthew Gray Gubler, who says that Roman Polanski is one of his favorite directors? It makes me sad; at some point the sadness overcomes the enjoyment of the media. Where that point is depends on a lot of things, but... it's... some days it bothers me more than others.

--- Weirdly, a song on my Windows Media Player that has suddenly started to play faster. It's A Place for My Head by Linking Park, off of Hybrid Theory. Now, I wasn't thrilled with the song in the first place, but this new faster tempo makes it doubly annoying. Anybody heard of this sort of thing? Any fixes for it?

--- I've got a whole post about things from my morning commute. Maybe I'll write that up later. <3

4. I know what you mean about artists you like turning out to be dicks and HATING THAT. Aughn. It's impossible to enjoy "Maverick", say, even though I love Westerns, love Jodie Foster, and love the incredible fanservice of James Garner, because Mel Gibson taints everything. :( :( :(

Um. Well. I dunno, it's different ridiculous, you know? It's the same, kinda, in that it has this dramatic storyline and characters, but then there's a touch of the unbelievable about it. I like the credits (even though parts of them are... um. not so good) and I just... it hits my buttons. And Shea is so pretty. And Lloyd is so Rodney. I mean. Um. Yeah, he's my Rodney.

First, (I know it didn't come from this post, but I swear I can't find the one it did) I just watched "Billy Elliot" since you were talking about how good it was and I enjoyed it, so thanks for the tip!

I never even got through the first chapter of Game of Thrones because I got bored, but I've been avidly watching and enjoying the TV series. My favorite character is JM's character's wife (I can't remember her name), but she is awesome and I love her and I'm totally rooting for her to come out on top.

I totally know what you mean about celebrities who are dicks that ruin your enjoyment of them. I was so very much in love/lust with Alan Rickman for a long time until I heard him disparage Star Trek once and ever since he's kind of lost his luster, lol. I know, a silly reason to call him a dick, but still...

I'll eventually watch Game of Thrones; we don't get HBO and for some reason I was thinking it was just going to be a mini-series, not a full on show, so... I guess I'm waiting for DVD.

Arg, the celebrity thing - I mean, there's all kinds of stuff that puts me off people, and I try to be all 'to each his own' about it, but then there's the stuff that I just can't stomach (like Roman Polansky - Wes Anderson supports him too, sadfax). It's weird and a little confusing and just sad.

I hear you on the problem of liking somebody, enjoying a celebrity's star roles etc., until you hear them open their mouth for a leetle bit too long.
The reverse of that squick is also a problem. Years ago I found it very disconcerting to meet charming people and then find out I really hated/got bored by their creative work. *aaack.*

I love Shea, too! I was so happy that we got to see (and are getting to see) more of him in these last few eps. I don't know if you watched Sunday's ep? But so far, my fave, because of lots of Shea being brilliant and Charlie being awesome.

Erica is growing on me. I guess I wanted to see more of Philly? So I was disheartened by her getting swept under the rug, but yeah, Erica is the kind of gal I love seeing on my TV (as evidenced by my adoration of movies like Bitch Slap and Death Proof and Aisha). Along that same vein, I want to like Jules more, too. The actress is amazing, but a lot of the times, I forget that she's there, which is unfortunate, because I feel like she has a lot to offer.

Oh, god, yeah, Shea in Attica. And then, there was this moment in the office when we got a shot of him from the back in that white tank top, and he was all huuuuuge shoulders tapering to a tiny waist and I was all !!!!!! SO. PRETTY. And then competent too, at what he does, and smart. I like him. You're totally right about Erica - I missed the first couple of eps - I wanted to watch it when I saw previews but we somehow missed it - so I don't know their backstories except what I've been able to glean from the last, what, ten or so eps?

I think Jules will come into her own. And I suspect they're going to make the thing between her and Lloyd adorably weird for the duration (I hope they have more sense than to ever let them get together). Though I do kind of want fic where Jules is purposely picking out those tight white tank tops for Shea on purpose (and Erica's underwear!!! femslash FTW). I like everyone on this show, which is saying something. Even with Leverage, I want to smack Nate most of the time. If he were more likeable, I'd probably be in love with that show as I am this one. Maybe this season will be better?

Oh goodness, I seriously hope they won't let Jules/Lloyd be the end result, 'cause it's just so awkward and weird and strange in my head right now. And yet, there have been a couple of moments where I have shipped Erica/Jules. *laughs*

I still haven't watched Leverage, and I really need to stop dawdling and just marathon it, since I see mentions of it everywhere. ^_^

If they did do Jules/Lloyd it'd be one of a few things: a) a drunken stupidity/forced closeness awkward sort of one-off that made things even *weirder* between them for a while until things settle down and it's just regular weird, b) Lloyd ~grows as a person~ and Jules thinks he's ~becoming a better man~ and they try it out and it doesn't work, obvs, and then one of them has to leave (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO), or c) several years down the road, Lloyd actually *does* become a better man, and Jules takes her time about dealing with her attraction and they get together right before the series ends because there's no way they want to deal with the two of them being together on a long-term basis.

Jules/Erica FTW! I WANTS IT, PRECIOUS.

Leverage is kind of the crossover fandom of choice. It's delightful fun (first season is mostly excellent, second has highs and lows) and the characters are outstanding, and really. Crossover fodder.

Somewhere in a wip folder, I have Jayne/Draco. I am ashamed to admit it, but there you have it. OTOH, there are a lot of unfinished things, as you know. The good news is I am socloseto finishing BB, and have writing mojo back, so maybe that will stay around.

That cake sounds wonderful, I am also disappointed in Mayer, who gets so many things right and then, well, he's a dick.

It'd lessen my enjoyment of them, whether to the point of giving up the fannishness would depend. In this case of Roman Polanski, I don't think I'd feel comfortable fanning anyone who has looked into the rape case and after consideration given a clear "I like him anyway!" statement.

But yeah: it's a long list, and longer the less direct the dickishness is.

Yes, I stopped supporting people who signed the petition supporting him (because doing that was really a slap in the face), but people like MGG, who tweet about him being a favorite; it's no way to know if he knows about the controversy or not, so there's a sort of middle ground where I'm disappointed, but I'm not really sure *how* disappointed, because I don't know how much MGG knows. Ahhhhh, my head. *clutches*

Kaylee/Inara is such a sweet and playful couple; add to that my teaching kink and I'm completely hooked. And Zoe/Wash, I just adore that pair, I would read everything about them ever. :D
