A LIST!

Because I love lists!

+ Another prompt of mine got filled on the SGA Kinkmeme! Ronon, Gen, Worldbuilding. It's fantastic and by someone I know, and I have guesses, but that never ends well, so I shall simply sit on my hands until reveal.

+ Saw Despicable Me last weekend and enjoyed it. I do really wonder at the incredible number of kids movies that have abandoned/orphaned/adopted kids as main themes. WTAF, do the people writing these things have serious abandonment issues or what?

+ Looking forward (OMG SO MUCH) to The Sorcerer's Apprentice tonight! Every once in a while, I actually like Nic Cage, and this looks like so much fun.

+ Okay, yeah. So, White Collar's premiere really did it for me, in a way I was hoping Leverage was going to do, and didn't manage until the Parker episode. AND CAN I JUST SAY MY STUPID DVR RANDOMLY DIDN'T RECORD LEVERAGE TWO WEEKS RUNNING AND NOW I HAVE MISSED THE MOST RECENT ONE?! SO ANGY!!! >:(

+ Psych and Haven are still on my DVR for watching this weekend - as rewards for writing and betaing!

+ Interviews of team members for [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_work and [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_play have gone up on the team sites. Come check out what our awesome authors have to say! Also, any questions you want to ask here, I will include them on my own interview.

+ One McShep Match beta down, two in the works, two more when the stories get done and my own story to write. All before next Friday. D:

+ LJ is deleting and purging not only journals but all posts and comments by journals that haven't been logged into in two years. See [personal profile] bookshop's posts here and here if you don't get why that's distressing. SO. IS THAT 'IMPORTING COMMUNITY' FEATURE ON DREAMWIDTH TOTALLY DEAD YET? (Glad I imported my comments over.) ETA: And thanks to [personal profile] franzi1981 who pointed out that you're not considered inactive as long as you have content (more than a welcome post).

Because they also want to delete journals, and any posts to communities or comments made by journals, which have not been logged into for 24 months. So if someone posted fic or art or discussion to their journal or a community (and I am specifically thinking of fannish content) but has been inactive for whatever reason, we lose all of that content unless it has been archived elsewhere. :(

That's just WRONG information.

INACTIVE means not having logged in for 24 months AND having NO POSTS/COMMENTS other than the "welcome" post (that also must have NO COMMENTS)!

Having a journal with entries and not logging in for >24 months DOES NOT make you inactive.

Go back and read again.

Ouch, whoa, thanks for the clarification, because I completely missed it. I'm seeing the edit on the LJ news community (so yes, you are right, sorry--I didn't see the edit just now. I first saw this mentioned pre-edit in someone else's journal and have been going off of info there)

BUT, it is possible that fic-only journals that posted only to communities, or journals which were used for RPG in communities, or--idk--content I might not have ever even *heard* of or am not considering, will be purged.

At first, I didn't think this was a big deal at all, but there is going to be some lost content, one way or another.

Well, they said in the comments to the post, that comments made by an "inactive" journal will count, so I assume (and yes, I asked for clarification) that any posts to communities count as well.

This seems like a pretty thought out thing, and I'm not worried (based on the entry and comments) that any actual content will get lost.

And sorry for the capslocks - I'm just tired of the misinformation that's still around.

I think there are two things that are being confused here. The purging always happens like this, no matter what journals get purged for. So when, say, I delete my journal there, it would eventually get purged. And all the comments/community entries get purged.

The "big deal" in this post was that they didn't do a purge in forever, and so a lot of deleted usernames were never freed.

PLUS they will now purge delete, then purge said inactive accounts.

Definitely!!

Because I don't think there's been any real clarification yet whether a user who has posted comments/community posts in the past, but hasn't logged in in the past 24 months would be considered inactive.

I hope that a clarification will follow soon. They've been pretty good lately with reacting to their user base.

Of course, now that I said that, they'll start to suck again, I'm sure ;)

ETA: Sorry for all those edited comments. My brain is too overheated to work correctly in a foreign language ;)

Aaaand I also got it wrong (and it's actually implied in the bit you quoted):

http://community.livejournal.com/lj_maintenance/128843.html?thread=12225611#t12225611

Comments/community posts only get deleted when the account has been suspended.

So even IF they were to delete users for being inactive even though they posted comments / community posts those wouldn't get deleted - because they've "only" been deleted, not suspended.

It's all very confusing!
