Fandom Snowflake Challenge, Day 14

Day 14: In your own space, share your love for something fannish: a trope, cliché, kink, motif, theme, format, or fandom.

Oh, I love SO MANY tropes. I think though, that the one I want to talk about today is Team/Found Family/Families of Choice. I love strong relationships between people that don't necessarily include a sexual or romantic component, and instead is just that kind of deep, abiding love you have for people who are dear to you. Often my teams or found families HAVE romantic pairings/moresomes in them, but that relationship is just part of the family dynamic.

I often think that one of the things we crave as human beings are those relationships based solely on love and care, unconditional love, where it doesn't matter who you are or what you did, you are loved anyway. That's not to say there aren't consequences for your actions, but simply that the love people have for you goes beyond whatever mistakes you make. I am adopted and I have that support from my family and my extended family (which is found family, not cousins and such, though I have a lot of those too), and I just want all my characters to have that too. I want Jody to wrap Sam in bubble wrap and feed him chocolate. I want Teyla to quietly and kindly teach Rodney how to be better at social interactions. I want Eliot to be the bedrock that Leverage relies on because they know he will be there, NO MATTER WHAT. That kind of love is divine, WAAAAAAAY more than sexual/romantic (for me, anyway) and I want all my characters (and all my friends, and all of freaking humanity) to experience it.

I can't recall if you've ever commented on any of my Scorpion comments, but that is also a show where the team is the best thing about the show, and they are definitely 'found family'.

I haven't, unfortunately, as I don't watch, but that sounds awesome! I am extremely limited in my TV time, so when the episodes sat on my TV for several months, I pitched it. Sounds awesome, though!

Gosh, I could copy and paste this. This is what makes me become a fan of a show/book or whatever, this is what I write and this is what I want to read. For me this:

"I love strong relationships between people that don't necessarily include a sexual or romantic component."

sums it all up, and it is, I think, increasingly hard to find.

Aw, yay! *high fives you* I love this dynamic and I don't usually bother with visual media that doesn't have it in some form or another. I can live without it in books if I have to, but I prefer to have the support network if possible.

Ah, Team/Found Family of Choice is such a great trope!

If I'm not mistaken, it's called Bandfamily in Bandom. There's sorta-canon of this since, say, some of the ex-MCR peeps+their families live in Los Angeles and they do hang out with Pete Wentz+his significant other (who also live in LA).

I love the domesticity and comfort that, like you said might be sexual/romantic (and that's fine with me too), is more about friendship and supporting one another. :)

Oh, that's awesome! Supernatural RPF has this too - the two leads live in the same town in Texas and their wives are best friends, their kids hang together... it's just so heartwarming to see. Love that kind of thing.

This! Found Family is one of my favorite tropes too and I like the way you talk about the unconditional love behind it. ♥

Aw, man, that trope is great. In Teen Wolf it is pack, which is sort of adorable, like, yes, make the fuzzy trope more fuzzy.

Yyyyyy - that is totally what gets me on board with any of my fandoms. Gimme team! Gimme family! Gimme it allllllll!
