The Fandom Snowflake Challenge Day 5
Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or consume different fanworks. Give that new fandom a go. Listen to a podfic or watch some vids if you haven’t before.
Um. I'm going to count the last six hours that I've been a) rabidly watching SPN (more than halfway through S5 now) and b) editing Fanlore as doing something new.
My girlfriend is either going to kill me or die of embarrassment (because I love Castiel, OMG how could I not, it's like he was made for me, if only Misha would grow his hair long!). I'll let you know which happens first.

Naw, I love that they're all buddies. That's awesome! And I can totally see where the Jared/Jensen and Misha/anybody stuff comes from, even from the fringes of fandom where I've been. I haven't been reading yet, so I don't have a feel for whether I will read RPS or not. I'm not one to keep tabs on that stuff (I suck at twitter), so I'm usually just not on top of it enough to be able to enjoy it. But hey, that's what AUs are for, hm?
I'm not sure I will start reading, tbh, we'll just have to see where it goes. I think I might write something before I start reading, just to see if I can avoid fandom zeitgeist a bit.
See, yeah, I gotta admit, I felt like they were trying to give fanservice with the convention bit and just... missed the mark. I don't normally feel like they're hostile, but it's hard to tell, really, and yeah, I've been burned by SGA.
Oh, man. I've noticed Sera Gamble's name, but I could place where I might have heard it before - ugh the Marti comparison burns, if it's true. :( What has she done, exactly? She's a producer, not a writer, right?

When Eric Kripke created the show, he had the first five seasons all planned out, so when it got to the end of season 5 and they got renewed, he left to do other things and Sera Gamble takes over as show runner, hence the Marti Noxon comparison fits in more ways than one. She was not very popular with a lot of the fans, although some people liked her. She stayed as showrunner for seasons 6 and 7 and now it's passed on to one of the other writer's, whose episodes I loved, but whose name escapes me at the moment.
Writing before reading might be a good idea. The only thing you really have to keep in mind is that Castiel is shortened to "Cas" not "Cass." Oh, speaking of writing, remember back when you did that meme and I gave you genderswap and SPN and you talked about them being raised by their mom instead of their dad? Obviously, you hadn't hit the episode with their parents' backstory so I couldn't tell you their mom was trained as a hunter already. I'd still be interested in what you'd make of it.
I know exactly what you mean about not watching 24 for anything, I watched one of the episodes, but never felt compelled to watch any others.

Oh, huh, I love the idea that Kripke had a set plotline. It just figures that they'd want to keep going, even after the end of the storyline. I have a bad feeling that my happy times may be tested in the later seasons. D:
Hm, well, that actually makes it non-genderswap, ha, it just would be a flip of John getting killed in the nursery. I don't see Mary as going quite as... obsessive... as John, though, so I can't imagine them being driven or trained the way they were. But I don't know, honestly. I hesitate to say it, but I wouldn't really be terribly interested in writing that fic (that particular kind of 'what if' scenario is something I'm terrible at) but I would be extremely interested in reading. I love the idea - but figuring it out? That's my least favorite thing to write. :(

It's okay, I'm pretty sure that fic has already been written somewhere. Actually, once you're ready to read stuff, I'll look up a story I found that I think is actually a crossover with Stargate, but the only Stargate thing was the multidimensional mirror. Dean goes through all these different realities and meets all these different versions of himself, Sam, Cas and others and some are genderswaps. It was a good story, I'm gonna have to look it up again!

Arg, people. Just because Cas has a single S does not mean it sounds like a Z. ARG. IT'S CAS. That's obvious, or should be. (Especially because isn't Dean's not-girlfriend from season 1 Cassie?)

Also, um. While you're looking for links... is there anywhere that has Cas caps? I have an offer on my dwircle to make icons if I provide caps, but I don't know where to find them (and I don't have DVDs to make them myself).

I have no idea what eps I want, though, ack, I... um. Shit. D: I'll check the IMDb summaries, I can probably figure it out.
And I'll probably read that fic tonight; the gf has called a hiatus on SPN (she'll let me watch tomorrow) and we've got Bourne on right now. (The new one, with Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz.)
ETA: Ahahahaha and when I click on "Most Popular Screencaps" the first one is Cas's first appearance and then he ends up being more than half of the first several. :D I'm all good.

I was about to suggest you should also read "The Soul Piece" by her, even though it's a WIP. It was the first really long Dean/Castiel story I read and it kinda informed my whole perception of the ship.
Okay, seriously, I just can't get over that. What are the chances of that happening? LOL
