Signal Boosting, Links, and Recs

1. [livejournal.com profile] atlantisbigbang is still taking sign-ups until Monday. Here's the link for writing, and here's the link for art/fanmixing. Yeah, I signed up. Even though I didn't finish Impromptu. And yeah, I do have another over 40k story in my folder that I think I'm going to finish. I hope.

2. [community profile] random_fic_is_random is holding a reverse auction for Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, where you put up a post with how much you're willing to donate, and what you want. Go there for your epic Sky High/Criminal Minds crossover where Garcia suddenly has superpowers and has to go back to high school!

3. [personal profile] yvi is also holding a fundraiser for DW, this one is buy a bug. Head over there to see if someone will take on your pet project for Dreamwidth.

4. [personal profile] auburn wrote this lovely John/Rodney story (that starts out Rodney/Keller and John/OMC) that hits all my buttons, called If You Can't Be With The One You Love (15k words, PG13). It is awesome. I used to be all about stories about John getting over Rodney in 5th season or post-5th season, because I didn't like him being unhappy. As the show has faded from my memory a bit (and the fandom has had a bit of attrition), I'm finding that I miss the early, easy McShep, and fics that address 5th season are harder for me now. [personal profile] auburn hits all those buttons just right. Also, she hits one of my favorite favorite things - which is actually the lack of something. So, I'm not squicky about cheating, you know? I understand why people do it, I understand that it's an angst factory, I get it. It works. But I don't like it. It always seems to me that if you were a decent human being, you'd either break it off with the first person before you go fucking around, or, if you loved the first person, you'd keep it in your pants. I'm not judgey IRL - I have much more sympathy for real human beings, and I know exactly how tough life is, so I don't have any need to judge anyone. Ever. But in fic, movies, TV and other media? I HATE it. Hate. So you can guess what's missing, right? And as soon as you get into the meat of the story, you will know why that is impressive. I love it, and I love that it all works out in the end (with added angst because of the not-cheating), and there is just some masterful storytelling going on there.

5. This is the end of the list. I have to practice clarinet before stitch n' bitch, so I'll be back later, kids. <3

okay. so next time I'm in B'more I'll have to make sure I hit a stitch 'n bitch. D said I should, and clearly she's right.

I grabbed that Auburn story last night; it's first in the queue for this evening's reading.
