Fests I participated in this year: I dropped out of every single one. I can't even remember how many I tried to do, but I haven't written since April, and I didn't do any podfic fests this year.

My favorite piece of this year: I honestly can't pick one. I've left this question until last, thinking something might surface during the day, but no dice. I love the podcasts because they were a joy to collaborate on with Jelly. I love Battle Chefs and don't threaten me with a good time because there were so many laughs. I love all of Sami, sweetlittlevampire, and Witch_Nova221's works because they're all so good. I had a good time with all the things I read this year.
My best piece this year: I think it is the excerpt from rather cruelly used and rather reserved. I'm not just saying that because I edited it, either. I was in a really perfect headspace when I recorded this, and the edits were under double digits. Maybe four or five flubs altogether, and I really think the edit is kinda perfect.
Most fun piece: This is always tough, but I laughed myself silly through don't threaten me with a good time

Piece with the single sexiest moment: So I only did 2 explicit podfics this year, both Sami, which is kinda hilarious, really, and both of them are explicit with the same pairing – Jiang Cheng/Lan Xichen, heh. I cannot believe I didn't read any explicit WangXian this year at all! Well, I can – I don't really love reading explicit stuff anyway, but man. This was a surprise. So I don't have any opinions at all about which is sexiest or has the sexiest moment, but the whatever comes of you and me has a higher ratio of words spent on smut vs words spent on plot, if that means anything to you? Anyway, the two explicit podfics are: whatever comes of you and me (I'd love to leave my memory with you) and Something from Nothing.
Most depressing piece: I don't really do depressing. Not in fic, nor in podfic. I might, possibly, someday, but haven't this year. There's a good amount of angst in tryptich, though.
Piece that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: None, really. I wasn't in it for perception-changing. Mostly my stuff this year was comforting and fluffy. I am okay with that.
Biggest Disappointment: Not writing since April. My life always seems empty when I'm not writing, no matter how many other things I'm doing. My music has taken up a lot of time this year, and certainly I enjoy it, but I wish I could balance it better with writing.
Biggest Surprise: Nothing, really. Podfics are treated a certain way, so there's never the kind of surprise in reception that you get in fic. I guess I'm a little surprised that the podcasts were liked as much as they were. I love Jelly, and I love chatting with her, and I love that people enjoy us being idiots together.
Most Unintentionally Telling piece: Since I do cold reads, there are almost always things I am talking about that are unintentionally telling. I prefer this is relation to fic, but since I didn't write any, I don't have anything to put here. I'm trying to think about what actually might have been more telling in one of the cold reads or podcasts. Perhaps the Mac + Cheese + Podfic podcast? We got lots and lots of responses to that.

So normally I enjoy looking back on the year, but this was an absolutely shit year for me. 20 total works? NOT A SINGLE FIC PUBLISHED? I am seriously in tears doing this. I hate everything right now, and it's not good timing because I'm making lucky sauerkraut for next year, and dwelling on the failings of 2022 is not a great way to infuse good energy into my 2023.

You deserve to be joyful about all the wonderful things you've accomplished this year. I'm sorry writing disappointed you. Maybe these things just ebb and flow and the writing will come back to you in the new year. I hope so. I want you to find all the success you deserve.
I started listening to one of your podcasts, I think it was a Halloween episode? I really enjoyed it, although I didn't get a chance to finish it. You have exactly the kind of voice I like listening to when I listen to podcasts. Oddly, it sometimes was hard to tell the two of you apart when you were talking. Anyway, I hope you do more since you're so good at it.
I wish I could find more words of comfort for you or find some way to reassure you that this next year will be better. I have every confidence it will be. You've identified what's wrong, now you just need a plan and to execute the plan. You can absolutely change things around in the new year. You can do it. You're one of the strongest people I know!

I've got my fingers crossed for you that writing will go better this year! I guess sometimes these things kind of... fluctuate? Before 2022, I didn't even really write fic at all, so I'm still kinda baffled that I'm keeping at it? I posted less than I had hoped for in 2022, though the wordcount at least is pretty much the same as 2021, just split over fewer fics. But I had a phase there in the middle where writing was extremely slow.
I guess, since it hasn't been an integral part to my (fandom)life until very recently, I can shrug this off more easily. Ah well, what of it, you know?
Perhaps just leaving this year behind will do us all some good. It just wasn't a really good year all around and I'm not sad to see it go. Here's hoping 2023 will be better! ♥
