How I feel about this character: I LOVE KEVIN. So so so much. And he had it really rough. Everyone tossed him around, and while Dean can say Kevin was like family, I don't think he was, not at all. Dean was lying to himself if he thought so. He would NEVER have dismissed Kevin's mom without a thorough search if that was actually the case. I think Crowley was spot on about the Winchesters in Kevin's case (that they use people to their own ends - and Zachariah was right about them too, much as we all go "yeah, right" in the fandom. I loved that bit - when the show points up how fucked up they are, we all go, well, obviously - but that's why we love them!). And I'd love to say Sam was different (you'll see why in a sec), but I don't think he was. Those Winchesters really are too wrapped up in each other to treat anyone else well. (And I love them for this, don't get me wrong! But Kevin's tragedy was the result of that crazy co-dependency and I wish it hadn't happened.)
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I do enjoy Sam/Kevin, because I have a teaching kink, and I love the idea of Sam being kind to Kevin, and them being geeks together. Uh. I don't know who else? I would love to actually ship Charlie/Kevin, again with a teaching thing, where Charlie's like, okay, I know you're a dude, but you're young and pretty and I'm just going to pretend you're a lady. You'll like it, I promise! No Dean/Kevin, though, uh-uh. Dean/Kevin's mom, hell yes, but no Dean/Kevin. That makes it too creepy for me. I do enjoy Crowley/Kevin a little bit - more from a "hee hee, Crowley's a dirty old man" perspective than anything (I love Crowley's crushes, actually) and I wouldn't actually want anything to happen between them. I liked him with Channing well enough; they were a cute high school couple.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I like it when Dean's proud of Kevin - he so clearly wants approval and for whatever reason, Dean is the one of them he imprinted on. I like Sam maybe taking Kevin under his wing a little, providing tenderness to offset Dean's authoritative "do this, you have a duty" bullshit. Which feeds into Sam/Kevin, but doesn't have to. I like the idea of Garth and Kevin being buddies of a sort, Garth trying to provide what companionship he could before he got turned. I love Kevin and his mom, they are both so wonderful and such a brilliant mom/kid dynamic (though not his original mom - not at all - and ew, I did not like her at all, thank god for Lauren Tom).
My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't think I have one? I love him, I feel like most of fandom loves him... I guess I'm harsh on Dean where Kevin is concerned, and considering how much people love Dean, that's probably unpopular. *shrug*
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Ha, well. That's obvious - that he NOT DIE. But also, jeez, that they had fucking GONE TO LOOK FOR HIS MOTHER. Because THAT'S WHAT FAMILIES DO, DEAN. >>>>>>>>>>>>>:(
