My mom said something interesting the other day.

My older sister has a friend, DR, whose mother died a while ago. She was a pack rat. and he is slowly going through all her stuff, selling, donating, and trashing. One of the things he found was several boxes of knitting and crocheting projects that were 80-99% done. Some just needed ends tucked in, some needed a few rows done, some needed sections sewn together. She's been finishing them all up. She said, "I love doing this - just finishing up someone else's stuff, it's like getting a whole afghan done for the price of tying in a few ends."

And I thought, you know what? I've got easily half a dozen stories that need just that little push to the end that I can't seem to finish. And I love to finish things too - if there were stories like mine, needing just a little bit at the end, I'd be happy to finish those up for someone else.

Maybe I should do something like this on [community profile] prospectus. Anybody feel like they might be willing to try their hand at this?

Interesting! I have dolls like that, but I don't think that quite works in this context. I also have a lot of b/w drawings that I meant to color digitally but never got around to.

I've been on the Internet long enough to know that if you get a present you're nice about it. XD It's not like the b/w is ruined even if the coloured version isn't perfectly what you imagined. I've never had such trouble, I've always found other people's coloured versions of my line art totally delightful. The only thing I can really imagine objecting to is stuff like getting a character's hair or skin colour wrong, and that's only an issue if it's an OC or from an unfamiliar fandom.

The practice might lead to some butthurt, true, but it shouldn't be too bad if everyone just decides to be an adult about it. After all, those stories would never have been finished and those pics would never have been coloured otherwise.

God. I have several embroidery projects -- one long-stitch, two or three cross-stitch that really don't need much done, that I don't really want anymore, but I put so much time into them, and loved them when I did them, all that... that I'd love to give away to someone to finish and love. <3

It's hard for me to imagine how that would work in a writing context, but it sounds interesting; I guess I'd be willing to give it a try! I definitely have the raw materials for it...

Ugh, yeah, I have fic that is about 95% done where for various reasons that last little bit is just... not happening.
