I also can't think of a hero that actually rescued me. The love interest thing, yeah, a bit - but mostly, I imagined myself as part of the group, tagging along and having adventures/fighting evil alongside the heroes. XD
Like, I imagined being a fox amongst The Animals of Farthing Wood, or part of the Sailor Moon team. :D
