REALLY! That's fascinating! I mean, the end result is the same, I think, but I had not known that it was the intimate "you" we got rid of instead of the formal one. Are there other languages like this? I mean, Chinese doesn't have a formal "you" either (at least in what I've learned so far, which is, admittedly, limited), which I'm guessing is why all the name/title stuff to indicate deference.
