We're seeing Green Lantern with [personal profile] meansgirl later this weekend, so that's not on the menu. All the movies below I'm willing to spend money on. I didn't put The Art of Getting By because all of the rest of these grabbed me a little bit, but that one I was 'meh' about. I'll probably see it at some point because I love high school movies and Freddie Highmore, but not tonight.

Poll #7298 WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO?!!

What movie should I (possibly we, if it's not horror) go see tonight? (I don't mind seeing horror alone, don't let that deter you if you were going to vote that way.)

First, [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw is back on this year. I really had fun last year, so I'm going to try and do something again. Maybe a daily poll? ALSO - I am going to get [community profile] queerlygen back on track, because I really do love that comm and it hasn't deserved to languish. (Relevant because it's languishing because of last year's 3W4DW prizes not being handed out yet!) If you are interested in helping co-mod, please do contact me.

Second, I want to do that 'if you had to pick only five stories to keep' meme, mainly because I've been rereading a lot of my stuff lately. I probably will get around to it at some point, but you all should do it too! I love reading what people think on that stuff, why they'd pick certain stories over others.

Third, I went to the hospital and had a delightful lunch of couscous with pears, cranberries, and walnuts and milk from the hospital cafeteria. For a while now, the cafeteria has had these signs up saying "Be healthy - go meatless one day a week!" And there's a theme of Meatless Monday. It irks me. I know it shouldn't, but it does. I don't eat very much meat. I'm just not a meat eater, you know? It's fine, I just... like other things better. So it makes me want to eat meat on Mondays just to be contrary. Of course, they pull out all this super-delicious vegetarian cuisine on Mondays, so of course I get it. I'll eat meat for dinner. >:)

Anyway, it got me thinking - I don't eat meat every day of the week. It seems uncommon to me that someone (besides my gf who is a confirmed carnivore) would eat meat every single day. But clearly I'm a weirdo, so I'd like to see how the rest of you feel about that. Here, have a poll!

[livejournal.com profile] sga_santa is live! I'll be putting up my request soon, but I was planning to post this before they went live. Whoops. It's here now, though. Losers folk, take a look at the poll further down pretty please?

My thoughts on writing prompts for SeSa, Yuletide, and other fic exchange letters/prompt/request posts. )

I email myself stuff I need to remember all the time. I have an email set to remind me to put up [community profile] 15_minute_ficlets prompts every Sunday, for example. Also, I have an email set for the beginning of July that reminds me to renew my license plates.

I just got one from myself reminding me to put up a post on dos and don'ts of good prompt writing (this because I recall there being a LOT of eyerolly posts on [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa last year). I'm not sure, though, so, here, have a poll!

And [community profile] mcshep_match delivers.

Team Play offers up an adorable story about Rodney turning into a sheep! Baa Baa Black Sheep is good cracky fun and will cheer you up.

Team Work gives a great piece of art about Rodney McKay, Pegasus veterinarian and John Sheppard, black sheep farmer! Sheppard Farm is so cute and the looks on their widdle faces! (Including the lamb!)

ETA: [personal profile] chkc made the most adorable bakery chibis!!! <3333

And you know what, fuck it. I was going to keep this a secret, but we need a little love around here. I am going to finish my SGA Musician AU by year's end. I have help now (thank you [personal profile] meghanc for being a lovely, handholding, editorial genius) and I have a plan, and I would like to finish it before NaNo starts in November. (Editing during NaNo? Okay. Writing during NaNo? No way.)

A snippet. Short scene between Rodney and Radek. )

It's the one year anniversary of Dreamwidth today, and [community profile] followfriday actually had some questions to ask, so let me take a look at this...

What have been your favourite communities on Dreamwidth since being here? I'm enjoying [community profile] bakeitup, [community profile] sun_salutation, [community profile] teaching and [community profile] asexual_fandom.
What communities have you been most active in? Not to sound like a broken record, but: [community profile] queerlygen, [community profile] crossovers, [community profile] 15_minute_ficlets, and [community profile] prospectus. Modding totally counts as active!
Which do you hope will finally get active? See previous follow friday post.
What are the most interesting personal journals in your circle? Broken record again, but: [personal profile] marina, [personal profile] synecdochic, [personal profile] damned_colonial, [personal profile] cupidsbow. I've talked about them all before (check out my follow friday tag, but ask if you want to know something specific).
Who has made your reading place a happy/funny/thinky place? Well, all of you - you're wonderful! But to give you some other people to look at: happy: [personal profile] cimorene, whose plebefic headers are awesome (and also posts shoes! \o/) funny: [syndicated profile] xkcd_feed thinky: [personal profile] dromomaniac, who doesn't post much but is fascinating, [personal profile] coffeeandink, and [personal profile] deepad, both of whom are big names on campus, and you should check out.

Big news: I am going to see Gil Shaham tonight. This is the violinist I love the best. I have picked him as my Rodney for Impromptu (John is Van Cliburn... what?). I expect to write Impromptu pretty heavily soon, if I can get one piece of info. Ready, my trusty researchers? The Grammys were early this year; can any of you find when the classical Grammys were handed out? I found out last year, but I can't find the info this year. :( Help a girl out, will you? And I will post a snippet of Impromptu tomorrow, maybe.

I'm taking a new shuttle to/from work these days. It's a small shuttle, and the driver knows all his regular charges and greets us. I've taken it nine times so far, and he has not driven the same way twice. This morning, there was a pregnant woman on the shuttle and he asked her if the back way was too bumpy, and when she said yes, he said he'd stick to the main roads. ♥

Also - have been more and more annoyed with work and two things happened: [personal profile] cesare suggested a way of looking into putting my organizational skills to good use, and one of the directors asked me to host a panel with her at the SRA International conference in New Orleans next year! \o/ Since there are only 4 of the contiguous US states I haven't been in, and Louisiana is one of them, I'm pretty damn excited about this (not to mention NOLA!!!)... and the fact that she thinks I should look into becoming a regional officer, which means that I can probably get an awesome recommendation out of her, should I start looking into this other career path (which, it seems, would include lots of travel too, which is mega-FTW as I love travel).

Poll about... sneezing? )

I have subscribed to bunches of new people, and they have subscribed to me. *waves* From the non-fandom-centered friending meme on [personal profile] liv's journal.

No time for an intro post right now, but everybody loves a poll. So here, this is an argument [personal profile] soleta and I just had about a show on the Food Network.

This is in no way scientific, but I was curious what y'all read, love, and reread. I'm curious to see if people like to read the same things I do, or if there's as wide a variety as it seems. Assume the writing quality on all is equal; given superior writing, what genres would you like to read?

Like I said, not science, so the 'genres' are based on tags from various communities.

Rather lengthy poll under here. )
kate: Kate Winslet is wryly amused (Default)
Apparently, more than I thought.

So I've been crossposting fic, using [livejournal.com profile] kisahawklin/[personal profile] kate to show that I had two different usernames on the two different sites. I've now got several people thinking I'm two people, writing together. I just squatted on [personal profile] kisahawklin, and I'm trying to decide what to do. I think my preference is as follows: change [livejournal.com profile] kisahawklin to [livejournal.com profile] kisa_hawklin, make my fic journal (currently [livejournal.com profile] lusty_daydreams) [livejournal.com profile] kisahawklin, and then split my dreamwidth, posting the fic on [personal profile] kisahawklin and everything else on [personal profile] kate (including links to the fic, which I never used to do with on the split between my LJ journals). But that's $30 in name changes to LJ, which, not my favorite idea, though it would finally make my fic names line up all over the place, and that would make the OCD portions of my soul quite happy (and probably would make people tagging at delicious happy too).

So, anybody want to weigh in on this?

A poll, while I can still support it on LJ )

ETA: [personal profile] soleta reminds me that I should mention what I'm currently doing about fic posting/comments which is this: cross-posting to [livejournal.com profile] lusty_daydreams and [personal profile] kate with comments open on both, cross-posting to appropriate comms, linking to LJ and DW (on LJ) and DW (on DW), and leaving comments open on the two original fic posts. I'm currently getting three or four times as many comments on LJ as DW, and since I'm admittedly a comment whore, I'm not sure I'll ever, on fic, force people to comment on DW. At least until I find a fandom that exists primarily on DW (it's coming, I can feel it).

I read in a comment that someone commented on 80% of the fic she reads. I was stunned. So, I'm just curious. Also, I'm kinda hoping everyone is like me, and doesn't comment much, so I shouldn't feel slighted by the lack of comments on my fics. So, anyway. Have a poll. )
kate: Kate Winslet is wryly amused (pitt back)
You know, I realized some time ago that I only wrote in my paper journal when I was down or trying to figure out some unpleasant circumstance. After all, if things were going well and I was happy, then what was the point of writing? Why not just live life to the fullest?

I find that Livejournal is almost exactly the opposite. If things are tough in one way or another, then I don't write. I think that's because there's an audience. I know you can privatize, but I don't. Because if I wanted it private, I'd write it in a paper journal. No, this journal is social, and that affects what and why I write here.

[EDIT]

Well. *wipes hands* That's enough of that self-pitying drivel. So.

I have, indeed, done almost all of the fic requested by people in my Yule drabble gifts and birthday mathom. I'll put up a post with links for everyone to follow, but I'm tired from moving, so I won't be doing that this week. In the meantime, my birthday is coming up, and I'd like to offer another mathom. I'm also going to ask for a couple of suggestions, by way of a birthday present for me. Call me an opportunist, I dare ya.

Hello, my lovely friends. My birthday is this weekend, and I have a request.

I love each and every one of you so much. Because of that, I request that you not post anything on your own journals re: my birthday. Mostly because there’s a high likelihood I’ll miss it, and that would make me sad. Both to miss it, and to possibly make one of my friends feel bad because I didn’t comment. I feel bad enough already that I’m a million years behind on my commenting. I don’t have a lot of time to get online. However, I do have a lot of time to write on the train, and that leads to my mathom.

So, in lieu of birthday wishes, have a poll )
